    Insurance question

    Righty ho,

if you get done for something like drink driving you get an endorsment on your licence which i understand stays on your licence for 11 years.

Does that mean that whenever you apply for insurance in that 11 years you always have to declare it or does it not count after a certain amount of time like 5 years or something?

    Cheers :)

    Re: Insurance question

stuff like that you have to declare until the endorsment is removed, not doing so could void your insurance.

you dont have to declare speeding, but studd like CD10s (dangerous driving) etc you have to declare

Insurance companies usually just ask for convictions for the last 5 years.

For less serious convictions you have to declare tham for up to five years. Not declaring them could void your insurance (they'll ask for a copy of your driving licence if you make a claim).

For more serious stuff like drink driving you have to declare them for up to 11 years.

The length of time depends on the insurance company :D

if an insurance company only asks for any endorsements from the last 5 years (which most do) that's all u have to tell them, this applies to every endorsement including drink/driving.

    I know from experience! :(

I work for a broker and we deal with about 30 different insurance companies. We've had many policies voided because of people not declaring serious convictions :D

It is possible to get away with it if you know how to but most people don't stand a chance cos they don't have clue how to do it :D

At the end of the day insurance companies will look at anyway to get out of making a payment. If you don’t tell them and you crash your insurance will be void. they will then sue you for any damages you caused to a 3rd party and you'll more then likely lose you licence for driving with out insurance. It happened to a mate of mine.
You might as well not get insurance and save your money for your fines

as a general rule, drink driving and dangerous driving is 10 years

anything else is 5 years on your insurance even though they only go on your licence for 3-4 years they must stay on your insurance for 5 years.

YOU MUST DECLARE EVERY CONVICTION NO MATTER HOW SMALL, otherwise if you have a claim they'll either sting you for cash or they'll not deal with the claim for you which could be nasty!!!

Follow these simple guide lines and you'll be ok :D
