    Insurance this year.

With me just starting this modern apprenticeship I'm currently on 570 a month after tax. I'm wanting to go on holiday this year and just generally to live a little more and as most of you are aware I've just bought a car.

I'm wondering whether to get my mother to get insured on the car and have me as a named driver (me paying for it all) at £5-600 (£50 ish a month) with Liverpoolvictoria.co.uk or to go Third Party on my own for 1300-1400 (£110 ish a month)..

I don't know whether it'll be worth it to wait til I'm 19 to start on my own or not - they do take into account if you've been driving a year already don't they?

It's not really allowed (by the insurance companies) for you to get yr mum to insure the car if you're the main driver (although I'm sure you would get away with it unless you were really unlucky).

Don't think they take into account that you've been driving a year unless you were a main driver.
The problem with being a named driver is that you don't get the chance to build up no claims

Plus they sometimes don't pay out when you need them to.

It's not really about the value of your car, it's about how much you have to pay the people you injure in an accident if your insurance company tells you that your not insured because you lied when you took the policy.

It could cost you 10's if not 100's of thousands.

do a pass plus course... only costs about 50-100quid i think an it saved me more than that in my 1st yrs insurance...

i'd try and pay the extra an get you down as the main driver, you're gonna get fucked over and have to pay the extra amount sooner or later so you might as well do it now.

If you go with elephant.co.uk and add an experienced driver as your 2nd driver even if you've only been driving a year, it makes it dead cheap- I got £800 fully comp on my car with no no claims and 2 crashes in the past 3 years- it's worth a look- you can get an online quote so you can mess about & try 3rd party/fully comp to see what's cheapest.
Mine was an extra 200 to go third party(?)
MOst places were quoting nearly double that for just 3rd party.
Dunno why it's cheaper with an experienced 2nd driver but it knocked about £500 off their quote.

Your probably better off getting insured jsut in your name- it doesnt make too much difference if you have a years no claims....and if the car is registered in your name gettign your mam on as the main driver may be a bit tricky!:D

Its how lots of people my age play the game mate, usually for up to a year. They usually do it if they don't expect to complete the year..

I'm just wondering if its worth having more money to play with. I'm 18 and want to do more.. we don't have student loans!

Cos they think you'll be driving the car less if someone else is on the policy

I get my 60 yr old mother to insure my car, it is officialy hers but she never drives it etc. At age 17, not passed test at the time, got insured on a 1.8i volvo 440Li for 510. Hasn't gone down since, despite my having passed test and now being 18.

I have never crashed or anything though, my mam hasnt for about 40 years.

You and your mam aren't going to be very hard to miss on the road with those attractive ear muffs on - could see them a mile off.

How wud they prove she's not the main driver?
All he has to do is make sure the car is in his mams name, when you add a 2nd driver they don’t say how often they can drive the car.

But you don't get any no claims so your insurance won't go down and your insurance will always be expensive-
