    iriver vs ipod

Please don't move this to the tech foum, at least not straight away as I need to order an mp3 player today and not many people reply in the tech thread.

What's the best one to get? iriver, ipod or something else? I have about £200 max to spend.. I wouldnt mind pictures and video would be a bonus but it needs to look good, be a convenient size and hassle-free to use.

Anyone recommend certain models? (or where to get them cheapest)

    Thanks!

Ive got an iRiver h320 (20 gb) and ive still no complaints about it whatsoever. It plays avi (once u upgrade the firmware). Can be used as a portable harddrive. And u can record from the line in/built in radio directly to mp3 up 320 kbs. My set in the music forum , i used iriver to record it.

And iriver is best for listening to long sets becoz u can set study mode and select how much u wanna skip thru a track.

Besides all that, if i just wanted to play music and have a fashion item, i'd buy an ipod

I had an i-river and took it back for a 4gb black nano...

both players pc software is shit.. i-river slightly more annoying.. you can drag and drop with i-river, but then it doesnt list the titles in the menus, which is really really irritating..

The software with i-rivers in cumbersome in comparison to the light feel of the i-pod menu system..

i-pod has it in the looks department, no competition..

ok i-river comes with case and mains plug, but you can pick up the apple peripherals for about a tenner on ebay...

I took mine back cos the software ground to a halt and stopped responding... I think the reason you hear so many people bang on about i-pods going wrong is because they must outsell the nearest rival by *at least* 3/1 so theres more of them to go wrong..

You'll feel cheated if you get anything else other than an i-pod... and I also reckon you'll struggle to find an i-river on sale in many shops now? The creative effort is impressive in terms of spec, but it was designed by someone with special needs and a box of lego..

My g/fs got an i-pod video, I stuck a couple of films on for her and its the dogs nob.

Im unsure what to do as well... I only want to spend around the £150 mark.

I have been thinking about the Creative Zen Touch 20GB which is £149 on Play.com. My main usage will be for getting attached to the car sterio so I'm not sure what to do, whether I'm better going for Ipod due to compatability.

Ive spoken to Tomorrows World (Car audio place at Walker) and they can connect MP3/Ipod for around £80 but I'm not sure if you need an FM tuner which the creative doesn't have.

Anyone clued up on this?

DO you have a tape player in ur car?

If so you can connect any just using that tape cassette adaptor

Or if you get an iPod just get either the iTrip (for older ones) or somethin like the Belkin FM adaptor - for Ipod Video's.

The iTrip/Belkin aint as good quality as the tape adaptor mind - as it relies on FM.

Maybe you can use the belkin FM tuner with other players?

It simply connects to the headfone socket on the player.

Ever thought of a DVD MP3 player for the car? If you aint arsed about portability.

You can pick em up on eBay cheap as chips.

    Fit a fair few MP3's on a 4.7GB DVD!
