i disagree dodg... i like it. OK - the original is AMAZING - but thats cause i love all trent's stuff - but it's still a good version - its just the idea of "jonny cash singing a nine inch nails song???"
Great cover, undecided as too which i prefer though as they're both completely different. Anyone heard Going to Memphis... best cash song ever
It's way too loungy - takes away from the meaning of the song... And to hear the original live unfriggingbeatable There should be a blanket ban on cover versions of artist's songs that they write for a personal meaningful purpose, eg Under the Bridge being raped by All Saints is a fucking travesty
Unfortuneatly that would probably mean you wouldn't be able to cover anything - I would have thought that most artists would describe their compositions as being written for a "personal meaningful purpose".
superb song.. mark ratcliffe played it on their last radio one show last year was very suprised he ever did this song considering the fact he was always considered to be slightly 'white power' ....I think comparing this cover with the brat-ppletons cover of 'under the bridge' is way out... trent razor admitted he was in tears with the way cash had worked the video the first time he saw it... i'm not a fan of nin in the slightest though so im a little biased
i use the term slightly, because he was... widely considered to be that is, which is why the 'hurt' cover was such a suprise choice considering trent razor was swinging between arthur and martha at the time - i say at the time cos not sure whether he still is..
I love both the Johnny Cash and NIN nails versions.. And as someone said, Cocaine Blues is good as well.
