London I am going to London for a week on a course with work and am going to stay for the rest of the weekend for the arsenal game so am looking for a hotel but as london is so big ive got no idea of what areas are the places to stay. the cheapest hotels ive found are in paddington but not sure where it is or how close it is to the city? any help would be apprecited
the city isnt really close to Paddington and it could be a bit grim on the tube at 830. Bank is the main tube hub for the city so you could get there on the circle line....work off the presumption that its 3minutes between stops on the tube and youwont be far wrong Paddington is WC (West Central) postcode i think
Re: London Don't get a hostel. We booked one and when we got there everyone was foreign, and there was some dodgy bird in out room in one of the bunks. She soon ran off out of fear i think but it was skanky.
hsbc are paying for my hotel during the week so assume thats close where i want to be, just need to book somewhere for the friday and saturday night for going to the match and going out getting pissed, what about docklands area, theresa cheap travel lodge there
the docklands is bloody miles away . Get a hotel in holborn or covent garden - you'll thank me. See about getting a travvellodge or other cheap one. Or even tottenham court road at a stretch. Last minute usually has some good ones - and it will offset the hour you'll spend on the stinking tube, or paying for a black cab getting to-from some out of town place like docklands, or some dive.
hotels will be ridiculously priced round there docklands will be similair price tbh remember that transport in London is 20x better than Newcastle and you can get a nightbus to pretty much anywhere
There is a Travelodge on Drury Lane which looks ok, and is very central (also particularly good if you want to go to The End, which is a stones throw away).
Re: London There are plenty of hotels and hostels etc around the kings cross area...pretty much every bus runs through kings and all the tubes go through it. My mates have stayed round there before and they thought it was ideal. You will get something at a reasonable price... I also agree with brid!
Aye, yeah you'll pay a bit more for covent garden of course ... but its 10 times more convenient, its right next to all the bars and a few clubs, its safer to walk around in, and the last thing you want to do after a weekend there is say 'oh i wish i'd spent 30 more quid and stayed somewhere central'. Theres some right dodgy characters near kings cross aswell - towards farringdon its a bit better, but i wouldnt like to be a girl walking around there at night.
im going to london in a few weeks im staying in knightsbridge. its really nice there but very expensive!
spent the weekend in London. Saw the great Holbein show at the Tate wandered round in the sun like a tourist, houses of parl westminster abbey, buck house, st james' park. party at night. It was great but live there? no thanks....
We always stay tottenham court road when we goto the match if you just lookin for a nights kip then it's cheap enuff
Just get somewhere around Liverpool Street? Otherwise anywhere in the centre is no more than 15 mins from the City by tube.. I work around Russell Square, theres some really nice hotels round here..
The past 2 Friday and Sunday nights I've been around there and havn't seen any dodgy characters tbh although I did see a sign about a fatal shooting when I came off the Thameslink. I'll be with my boyfriend while I'm there, the Kins Cross and Farringdon Travel Lodges are £70 and the Covent Garden (Drury Lane) is £89.
