    mobile phone upgrade advice

Morning all, I am due for my handset upgrade today. I am on o2 paying £19/month contract. I am wanting the new o2 cocoon phone but I am pretty sure they will probably try and charge for it.

Is there any tactics that people have used to get what they want without having to pay for, i.e. telling them to cancel the contract etc etc

ring them up and say you wanna cancel as you get better deals elsewhere, they'll then ask what deals you can get, and you say i can get a free phone (obviously the phone you want) and so many more txt, mins than you get now. Then they'll strike you a deal, usually giving you the phone you want free and some more txts and mins.

Thats what i usually do when my contract is near the end

I've never done this, but I've found O2 CS to be among some of the best tbh so they'll probably give you it for free at a push.

Defo beats having to wait in queue's for 20mins only to hear the voice of some Indian who doesn't know his alphabet.

Every time Ive had an upgrade with O2 Ive got a free phone.

I was due an upgrade at the start of the month so phoned them up wanting to get a Nokia N95. They said I would have to change from my online tarrif to a new tarrif - something like a £30 tarrif and get the phone for £129, £40 tarrif +phone for £80 or a £50 tarrif and get the phone for £30 ! I said I would just leave it.

I went into O2 in the Toon and asked for an upgrade and got it for nowt and kept me online tarrif

Well you pay £90 for a N95 on an online £35 tariff so those figures seem a little strange. An upgrade shouldn't have been £80 for a £40 tarrif.. that's just daft

    Good phone though :D
