Why do you have to move all over the country for Graduate opportunities?

Do businesses seriously expect you to do this? I have a home and am nice and settled - why would I want to go to London for 6 months, then chelmsford then manchester?

Is it possible to do this?

Do you have to arrange all your accomodation and that?

Most companies do it so you get a decent training in each area of their business. For example, 6months in the finance dept in HQ in London, 6months working on a supply chain project at a warehouse in manchester, 6months working on a marketing initiative in chelmsford etc.

Makes you a more rounded business professional and more of an asset to the company. Plus it means you can then specialise in one area of the business and still have a good overall understanding of the business needs in different departments/sectors.

And they normally organise all your accomodation.

All i want is a good job which isnt boring, on a decent wage.

I will have a degree, it will *fingers crossed* be a 2:1, in a random subject.

I'm sure there's graduate schemes that stick to only one area. It just depends on the company. Obviously bigger, more (inter)national ones will have more and further outposts to send you to. Just look at companies based in the northeast, or at a graduate scheme in just one particular department based in the north east.

Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you will or should get a "graduate opportunity", in fact there are very few of these types of opportunities remaining. In my experience, most graduates still have to get in near to the bottom of a company - having a degree just means that you work your way up quicker.

Not even that. I'd say it just means you get your foot in the door, it's meaningless once you're in!!

What a bloody nightmare this is - I have applied at shitcrack, sorry Northern Rock lol, but I was given the wrong information about it, so missed the deadline.

So I would probably have better luck just applying for the normal jobs market??

It gets your foot in the door, which is more than having a couple of a-levels would.. and instantly ahead of almost anyone without a degree.. good luck with it

Proctor & Gamble do a decnt grad scheme I think. Or if not, they're always recruiting for some position or another, and it's good company to work for.

"Does it matter if I don't have a finance background?

what the hell does service quality have to do with maths??

You'll probably be compiling stats and figures in some wanky excel sheet to present to someone.

how do you know if they arrange accomodation? should they say that or are they just assuming you will arrange it yourself?

A lad at my place has a 1st in maths and took a graduate job at P&G £6.50 ph!! total joke!!! I am part time while at uni and I get £8.75

A few mates of mine are on graduate schemes...each one sorted their own accommodation and fend for themselves.

TBH you usually need to apply like....4 months ago....to start in the year you graduate.

Yeah i'm also coming to realise that I've learned far more in 1 year on placement than in 3 years doing my course. Experience is everything.

A girl I worked in the states with started on £26k at P&G as a graduate, but not on the grad scheme... she did summer work for them beforehand though..

Yeah I was thinking....i've never seen a grad scheme that is based on an hourly rate?
