    newcastle uni dj/dance music society

Right- the score is i'm trying to set up a DJ/Dance music appreciation society for Newcastle uni.

I've got enuff ppl to start it up, but I want to recruit as many ppl as possible, good attendance and participation = good society. The main purpose of the society is to unite all the like-minded ppl that are passionate about clubbing/dance music as possible.

If the society does take off, we'll get given grants from the uni to fund trips+events which is pretty good (subsidized prices for trips to gatecrasher or godskitchen events in other cities , free transport etc)

No genres of music are excluded but is mainly aimed at ppl that are into House, be it HH, hard trance, prog house, deep house, funky etc. I know a few of you already know about this.... but since I'm such a newb to the newcastle scene I havent met as many hardcore clubbers as i'd of liked.... this seems the logical place to recuit.

About myself: I'm in my first yr of an engineering degree. I DJ a bit on the side,I mix mainly prog house but love hard house/trance. I try and make it to all the promise/quality nites as I can (best atmosphere+friendliest ppl+best music ever :D ).

If you'd like to join the society or know a bit more, or if you have any questions please feel free to email me or PM me.

    Thanks

Have you actually spoken to the SU Treasurer about this? Something tells me they aren't going to be desperate to give money to people to go clubbing. Having said that, if they subsidise any other clubs to go to any music events (eg classical or opera or something equally 'highbrow') then they haven't really got a leg to stand on.

There already is a DJ society at Newcastle.

Not as such. The society is still in early stages..... all the proper aims/objectives of the society are in the pipeline for next january.

I'm not saying the uni will pay for members to go clubbing, but I do know we'll be able to get some funds for special events. After all, the money has to be spent responsibly and all records have to be kept.

This society is as serious as any other. I dont see why we shouldnt recieve the same privileges.

Al Smith starting one a couple of years back and it promised loads but did very little. At the end of the day a society such as yours would be a good idea and you would get discount entry into places as clubs would bend over backwards to get you and all your members in.

I'm not in uni anymore but i still do warm up slots. Non of the other DJs who work at the uni are still studying. Definately the case at Newcastle Union anyway.

Id be well up for joining that.:p

in my last year but still think i could contribute!

doesnt matter if theres already a dj soc as long as you square it away with the union - any way you could just call it something slightly different.

its alot of work mind - rock soc got a new chairman and its fallen on its arse now cos he's too busy promoting himself.

the uni could be persuaded to rent the global cafe out to a soc for a dj comp or something along those lines quite easily i think but getting money for any thing other than promotion will be hard.

try mailing ppl thru the student mailer at uni - then you'll get an impression as to how many students would be interested (ill try not to delete it as soon as i see "Student Mailer"!) dunno how you do this but either your dept office or the computer services blokie in claremont tower will help you.

PM me if you need owt - ive been wanting to set sumthing like this up for a while but was too lazy!:D

I dunno bout this like.....would ppl be expected to sit in a room together after clubbing and discuss how hard they tried that nite??

It all sounds a bit forced imo.
