NYC, Danny Krivit & Rotary mixers

Just returned from NYC yesterday as ever the record shops and thrift markets didn’t disappoint, I had to buy an extra record bag to get everything back (which is always nice)….. Also went to see Danny Krivit at Deep on Sunday night. He played a great mix of old and new, Yoko Ono ‘Walking on thin ice’, Donnie ‘Cloud 9’ and plenty of other great music. He was really working the mixes plenty (but not too much) Eqing and long blends etc!

This got me thinking, what are peoples thoughts on the whole rotary mixer thing, it seems to be a bit of an NYC phenomena. I have to admit I like the idea of them but I have never ever used one, does anyone have any good/bad experiences with them?

And seeing as everyone loves lists, here’s what I found:

Mateo and Matos – Essential elements 4 ‘King Street’
I want to thank you (6.40min redit)
Instant Funk - We got the funk
Strafe – Set it off ‘Jus Born records’
New York Citi Peech Boys – Life is something special ‘Island records’
MAW – To be in love (Tiefschwarz mix) ‘MAW’
    Various Artists – Kompakt 100
    Sandcastles (Pete Hellar reedit) ‘Ibadan’
Sergio Mendes – I’ll tell you ‘Elektra’
The Jets – Crush on you ‘Twin Town records’
    Skyy – Call me ‘Salsoul’
Innerlife – Caught up in a one night love affair ‘Prelude’
John Davis and the monster Orchestra – Ain’t that enough for you ‘Sam’
Tortured Soul – I might do something wrong (Osunlade mixes) ‘Central Park records’
Osunlade – The year if the monkey ‘Yoruba’
George Clinton – R&B skeletons in the closet ‘Capitol records’
Sweet Charles – Hang out and hustle
Patti Labelle – New attitude ‘MCA’
Herb Alpert & Hugh Maskela album ‘A&M records’
The Atlanta disco band – bad luck ‘Ariola America records’
Motown magic disco machine volume II
First choice – Hold your horses ‘Goldmine records’
Love Unlimited – Under the influence ’20 Centruy’
Sharon Redd, Ula Hedwig & Charlotte Crossley – Formley of the Harlettes ‘Columbia’
Ashford and Simpson – A musical affair ‘Warner Brothers’
BT Express – Non stop ‘Roadshow’
Basic Channel – Never tell you (Burial mix), Version – Rhythm and Sound (Burial mix)
Beat Pharmacy – New Dawn ‘Deep Space’

Personally, I hate rotary mixers only cos they're useless for scratching and like.

Having said that though, they are excellent for really smooth mixing, if thats what you like. This is having tried both the A&H 92 and the V6.

Each to their own tho :)

Some nice picks there mind Lister. How old's that Tiefschwarz mix of 'To Be In Love'?

Personally, I like the idea of rotary mixers very much, although I've never used one. Amy used that big fuck off Rane at El Divino though and reckons it's the best mixer she's ever used. I think it might take some getting used to mind.

Some nice tracks there Mr Lister, as for rotary mixers I watched my m8 use one in Kelly's and he said it wasn't hard to get to grips with. Just a knob as opposed to channel innit.

    Never used one myself
