    PVD/J00F now only dj'ing from laptops

    Read an article, and was looking on J00F's board about how they are both now focusing their DJ'ing on using laptops as the sound source - and then using finalscratch and either CDJ1000's as the music "controllers" or the typical finalscratch+turntable setup.

    Personally i think its great that the huge names in the scene are recognising the superiority (depending on how you look at it) that current advances in DJ'ing technology bring to the scene.... Maybe now PVD and J00F are turning up to gigs with a powerbook instead of a record bag, people might change their views on what they want from their dj's?

    What does everyone think of this?

    if you can afford it why not. As long as they're not using traktor or any other shite to help them mix :evil:

    I reckon they should be using whatever technology available to make their sets better, it seems daft having access to the stuff and not using it just to keep vinyl 'purists' happy. The only danger is that so much of it could be done in advance, on the plane to a gig. When does it crossover from djing live, to just turning up and playing a set you've got saved on your laptop?

    Yes, you will get some djs that will abuse this technology (to cheat and play pre-recoreded sections of sets) but you will also (and already are) getting djs that can use tech such as final scratch to take their sets upto a new level of complexity and entertainment.

    Vinyl is dieing and to be honest I don't think it's a bad thing.

    Chris Liebing had his laptop and countless other gadgets hooked up when he played on Satuday and he was outstanding. Even with all the gizmo's he still played, technically, one of the best sets I've ever seen. Very talented guy!

    Yeah the reason Tiesto had his slip up was because of PVD having finalscratch set up on the sound system before hand which when you play regular vinyl though.... sounds borked.

    So it was all PVD's fault after all - but in all fairness you wouldnt expect a huge event like that to make such simple mistakes like that eh :spangled:

    It was Tiesto who they had the fuck ups with, the story is in Mixmag when the two trance titans came together and again Tiesto had the floor wiped with him - apparently when he played Traffic the sound went all distorted as fuck and he went in the huff :( - Van Dyk was on after him and only used his laptop and had no problems at all during his whole set !

    As for using laptops i say all the better, Van Dyk still uses records cos i have seen him use them in Amnesia and Sugarshack - the final scratch uses one anyways cos you just use the pitch and that as normal on a deck with blank record - if it saves hassle then its blatantly a success and instead of lumping loads of bags round just take a lap top in with a big fuck off GB HD !!!

    :D :D

    I've seen Tiesto a fair few times now and thats the only time anything has ever went a little pear shaped... IMO a lot of PVD fans have jump'd at this oppertuninty to put down Tiesto a bit, like that was wrote in Mixmag about him knocking back a B2B with PVD, bullshit IMO... i don't think PVD would of even offer'd. I'd think PVD would have know'n that Tiesto does'nt use 'Final Scratch' + they both play a different style of Trance... i think PVD would of had to worrie as much about going B2B as much as Tieso would. I agree PVD played the better set on the night but if it was'nt for the technical fault we would have seen a much more enjoyable set from Tiesto.

    Tiesto = :king:

    I've never heard or seen this happen?

    paul van dyk was on before tiesto @ nec because tiesto was late flying over from ireland from playing for godskitchen so he swapped sets with scott bond, think it may have been the final scratch fucking up tiesto, and its a bastard it happened but you cant blame paul van dyk, i mean the soundmen and engineers there shud have known about this and had everything in order for tiesto surely? as for the b2b thing apprently it was proposed to both and they both said no because of the contrasting styles of trance.....its like asking dave the drummer to go b2b with fergie its a stupid idea imo! pvd and tiesto are both exceptional talents and great in their own right, tho ill admit im a pvd fan, and as for using lap tops, as long as sets arnt pre recorded, who should care if people use them? there wasnt this much fuss about using cds now was there?
