Religion

Is anyone on this board religious?

I dont mean simply going to church, I' mean does anyone have their own interpretation of religion, I try to live my life by many of the 613 mitzvots, a few examples would be:

Not to wrong any one in speech (Loshan Harah)
Not to stand by idly when a human life is in danger
Not to take revenge
Not to bear a grudge
To rebuke the sinner
To leave the gleanings for the poor

and deffinatly:

Not to indulge in familiarities with relatives, such as kissing, embracing, winking, skipping, which may lead to incest
Not to commit incest with one's mother
Not to commit sodomy with one's father




And so on, my understanding of science and the history of man makes it hard for me to accept that there is god, but I find a lot of the religious teachings of Judaism some of the most noble moral guidelines to live your life by.

Im not religious, religion has caused a lot of crap around the world!!

if we never had Religion there would not b as meany wars as there is right now in the world

This is the one thing that intrigues me about ALL religions - their underlying principals on morals & right and wrong. As science has changed our understanding of the universe in that we live - and to an extent - undermined many of the ideas the various religions give us on the creation of life, the teaching on HOW humans should act and interact are as true today, as when they were originally formed into sacred texts 1000's of years ago.

Maybe religion is a way of passing these morals down in way in which they will be remembered - i don't however, see the need for the idea of 'a god' or supernatual force that created us - thats just human arrogance if u ask me

if religion is so important than why would jehovas witness'es sooner see there child die than have a transplant / transfusion

I think one of the problems with england is that in our celebration of secularism we've renounced many of the old values established by our forefathers be they christian, jewish, muslim.

Wankers like me slag off anyone they feel inferior in an attempt to boost their tiny egos

Secular britain lacks moral fibre.

The war in iraq definitely was humans greed!! i.e for oil. Mean they go on about the 100 soldiers who have been killed so far from britain what about the thousands of iraqis *sp!!!

thats not religion, thats just common sense

so you base your beliefs on not sleeping with you parents do you?

kinda goes without saying

that person lived and died for something that they believed.

What do you live for?

I'm not saying it's right or wrong to let a child die as it isn't my place to comment, but it certainly isnt a malicious act of evil - those parents will feel grief that we could never imagine.
