UEFA are presuring the FA to come down heavy on him, he could be made an example of. dont want him banned to long though want him ready for euro 2004
It's Rio's defense today, there's gonna be Sven, Fergie and others wheeled out to say how much of a nice person he is...
Man Utd are kicking off big style... this ones gonna be really nasty imo... I think its harsh in a way but he should be punished. Maybe 3 months would be more fair. But Man Utd cannot run the FA as they like to think they can so maybe this could teach them a lesson, and anything giving United a scare is welcome! But why does his ban start on Jan 12th 2003? Is it because of a possible appeal? And if so what right did the FA have to ban him from international games? Innocent until proven guilty.
if he hadn't have been banned for tha tlong i reckon fifa would've banned him from the euro championships anyway!!!
Pretty harsh imo. Cantona didn't even get that for his karate kick. I bet you it gets over turned, or at least reduced. I can see there being some sort of massive fall out with the FA and Man Utd over this. Possibly not releasing players to play for England, etc!
thought cantona got 9 months:spangled: ? agree its a bit harsh but funny all the same good point about the possible repurcussions Miller! ps how much would butt cost dya reckon????????
It's ridiculous, Mark Bosnich got a 9 month ban for testing positive for cocaine. Edgar Davids and Jaap Stam got 5 months for testing positive for steroids. Wheres the consistency in that? I think the FA were under pressure to give him a longer sentance as the media would have had a field day if they hadnt following Man U supposedly getting off lightly for what the Arsenal thugs did after the game in September.
I agree with you there. It wasn't only stam and davids in italy, recoba and several others in italy got their bans reduced/overturned for testing positive for nandrolone. Rio was stupid for missing the test but the charge wasn't about taking any illegal substance, and he tested negative a day or two later anyway. I think it was highly doubtful he would have taken anything, he was just very stupid/naive/negligent to not turn up. He deserves a ban, but if players can get lesser sentances for actually taking banned substances then the rules are going to pot (no pun intended).
