sasha on DJing 'live'.... From 1996 until 2001 Sasha and John Digweed played a monthly residency at the legendary Manhattan nightclub Twilo which gave birth to a unique, unparalleled movement in dance music culture. This winter, a little bit of magic returns to clubland as Sasha takes to the decks for the start of his new residencies. FUNDACION will allow Sasha to build on the introduction of the latest dj technology and play his trademark sets, not on turntables or through a mouse connected to his Apple laptop, but rather on a new custom-made controller made specifically for his Ableton Live set-up for a 100% digital experience. The new controller will allow Sasha to not only to exhibit his stellar track selection and mixing skills, but to literally produce and remix music live. With the ability to sample, loop, and fuse elements from multiple songs at once through digital technology, Sasha helping revolutionise the live DJ performance. “I’m building a custom controller because I think the idea of DJing with a mouse isn’t very cool. Everything on the screen can be manipulated with this controller.” Sasha told LA City Beat. “The accessibility has taken some of the mystery away from DJing,” he continues. “I used to come to America and play for people; there was no way they could get those records, and so there was a uniqueness to my sound. Now it’s everywhere, but that pushes it to another level. The technology will move things forward and enable you to give unique performances every time you play. A set of turntables and a mixer is not enough now. It’s time to move on.”
its not that new....people have been doing if for ages. DJ Falcon and G+D have both done it at foundation. Used almost entirely ableton for a set....
Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... shouldnt that be "im gettin someone else to build me...." wow he's using a midi controller to use with ableton live! nothing that new at all surgeon always uses a midi controller, i use one at home with ableton live if u have a midi controller with enough knobs you can control everything not that hard rea\lly now if he was gettin a midi controller made that looked exactly like ableton live did on screen then that wud b somet else
Think he still uses CDJs but is starting to move over to computer. It won't take him long to master it
Re: Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... Exactly what I think. Nothing special, but it seems that everything he does has people in awe :spangled: As for remixing etc live, its nothing that cant be done with a bit of planning on cdj's and the like. Wonder if it will spice up his sets though?
Re: Re: Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... exactly, every1 is using ableton now, it makes for a more insteresting set imo and u can literally do anything u want, breakdownas can last hours if u so please... altho effect on crowd might b a bit funy
Re: Re: Re: Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... Ableton aint hard to use, it's hardly ground breaking stuff. As Revel said Promise has seen quite a few Ableton sets. Involver bored to tbh, reading Sasha's little story bout how he found it hard to make it's a doddle.
Re: Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... Surgeon is absolutely devestating with Ableton. Seen him use it at Tresor last year when they did the British Murder Boys live thing, and it was one hell of an experience - especially in Tresor. Can't actually imagine Sasha  doing anything particularly groundbreaking with it apart from doing his own re-edits...
Re: Re: Re: Re: sasha on DJing 'live'.... Yep. British Murder Boys was the best live act I seen last year.
