    shindig last night.....

    was appalling :(

fair enough, the line-up was good but the whole event just seemed to stink of cash-in, esp when you're paying £3.80 for a bottle of smirnoff and £2 for cans of coke  and you've already forked out £30 for a ticket

They used the rig from last year, didn't bother upgrading it at all and they had to turn it down when yousef managed to make it distort during the warm-up and it never got any louder . The speaker setup was rubbish, the closer you got, the worse it sounded

no atmosphere outside whatsoever, only saving grace for me was dubfire and lawler ripping apart powerhouse :D

best bit is the cheek they've got, charging £6 in to the afterparty at foundation - it should be free entry if you've bought a ticket for the life centre but hey that sounds too much like common sense

from the reactions of people i talked to, it wasn't just me that felt it was a sell-out....

I thought it was good. Drinks were really expensive and didn't think much of the outside bit but the Powerhouse part was excellent. Dubfire's set was awesome and Lawler top quality plus breaks upstairs.
The after party was even better - Scott Bradford,Mark Armstrong,Lawler and Morillo each taking it in turns. Lexicon Avenue even finished off with a bit of techno, they seemed to be having a whale of a time

Tune of the night was Skylark - Shout

I enjoyed it, again I was inside the Powerhouse pretty much all the time, Dubfire and Lawler were wicked. Ended back at Foundation aswell, Lawler and Lexicon Avenue back to back was quality. Dropped Sona - Keep Control :)

Luckily I managed to get in to the event and the afterparty for free. If I did have to pay that much cash, I might have been a little more upset I guess. £3.80 for a small can of Bud was pricey.

Clear bar b4 hand was really good aswell.

Anyway will put some pics up soon.

i cudnt afford the main event, but went to the afterparty and that was more than enuff for me.

Scott and Mark played some proper good stuff as did mr. lawler.

And why did morillo only play one tune?

Anyways I had a good nite, so can't really complain. :D

Have to say, I had a very enoyable night. Spent most of my time upstairs in Powerhouse for ex-local lad Riton who kicked ass!

On the touchy subject of the pricey booze it was totally out of Shindig's hands, they were pretty pissed off about it in fact.

Saying that though it's odd that when on home turf everyone gets really bitchy about paying that little bit extra, yet quite happily go off to Ibiza to blag the best part of a tenner for a glass of ice in the clubs...

In all, I thought the event was a very positive step forward for the city's clubs and opened up an area of the city that is often segregated socially from everywhere else.

Lavelle's train fucked up so Riton did a double set and he did the full PGR really. Tiefschwarz, Hacker, Hell mix of West End Girls. Old school House trax, Franz Ferdinand, Kelis, Ragga, Breaks, Techno, Disco- quick on the mix too, driving and full of dancefloor friendly energy :D

    The afterparty was awesome.

To see lawler and Lexicon evenue on the same night for £6 was a bargain.

Drinks were a rip off as usual tho

the stantons rocked yet again. i enjoyed myself greatly. was good chatting to lister and stuart. just wished that needle hadn't jumped half a mile! the after party we did at sugar was just plain messy! properly a disgrace how it was run, charging £10 on the door plus knocking back all my guests - tossers.

it was the owner of sugar i think. we got booked to play and that was our only involvement. i was so drunk when i got there that two bouncers had to escort me to the room, much to the amusement of the stantons who popped down for a couple!

i thought it was a good night, not amazing

dubfire was good in the powerhouse, but i couldnt believe how dark that club is- you couldnt see a thing

outdoor stage was ok, morillos set was decent but nothing new

and the drinks proces took the piss, though if its beyond shindigs control then you cant complain really

I really enjoyed it, particularly Dubfire (which surprised me). The drinks prices were outrageous, but the Powerhouse had no incentive to keep the prices down as it won't really put people off going again, as the vast majority wouldn't go to the Powerhouse anyway.

Didn't really spend much time outside, as I think it is always difficult to get a good atmosphere going unless it is really warm.

Managed to get into Switch afterwards, which was free, open until two and had normal drinks prices.

That'll be because it's owned by the same guy that owns the Powerhouse!

As said Budweiser sponsored the event, so Shindig didnt really have a say in the price of drinks.

Wish events like that would come up more often in Newcastle. The weather and the musics was really good.
