    Short Sentences Swapped For Confessions

Convicted murderers could serve just seven years in prison under new sentencing proposals. Changes in sentencing powers brought in by Lord Chief Justice Lord Woolf will allow judges to cut jail terms in return for prompt confessions. It is hoped that an early guilty plea will spare victims, families and witnesses the trauma of a trial.

For most murders life should mean life... the americans have the right idea when grading murder

Rape and sexual assualt should also hold very long sentances

The justice system in this country is flawed imo.

I dislike the whole humanist argument of people having "rights". If you murder someone in cold blood you have removed their human rights, therefore you should have few yourself... prison should be as harsh and unfair as possible to prevent people ever risking going back again.

Rape and similar crimes can ruin peoples lives... personally I think sentances should be much harsher.

Did anyone see that program on telly about 3 membes of the public becoming ministers for a simulated disaster... in this case a flood in london? A prison was under threat which held class A extremely dangerous prisoners who would be at risk if the flood hit them and there was no time to move them or hold them elsewhere... the only course of action to take in the eyes of the law would be to release them onto the streets... that means murderers, rapists and paedophiles being released to commit crimes again if they didnt turn themselves in or get caught... disgraceful, they should be left in prison as their rights should be minimal
