    Skiing

Am going skiing this weekend, and have the choice of going to either Chamonix or Chatel, but don't know which to choose.

Has anyone been to either, or got any tips on what to look for when I'm googling them?

I've never been before, so looking for novice stuff/lessons, but mainly a fairly lively social scene in case it turns out I'm pump on the piste.

I'd check to see if theres been plenty of snow first. There was a shortage in the alps earlier in the season.

quite simply the weather forecast, use snow-forecast.com and which ever one gets fresh snow... go there :D

unless you're a complete beginner.... what is your ability?

Chatel seems to be the better choice if you're a begginer

green and blue will be fine.

both have a decent covering at the moment and both are due similar size dumps on thursday (chatel slightly more so).... Either resort will accomidate your needs.

although chatel might be slightly less busy - which is great when youre learning.

There are some nice nursery and beginner slopes there which would be a good introduction. The nightlife isn't huge to my recollection so you may want to look into it and compare them both, depends on what you really want to go for, skiing or social

So true! I got a low end board for Christmas and went away over New Year and the board saw snow for half a day, and during that time my face and bum saw more snow that the board did I'm sure!

    I've never broken a bone?

    I started boarding when i was about 15... I'm 24 now :p

You fall alot when youre a beginner, but once you've learnt the basics you tend to remain upright.

also off piste is a zillion times better on a board.

Ive tried boarding once, on a dry ski slope, and broke my thumb.

Im determined to try and learn again this year but on real snow this time, skiings got boring for me.

I was gonna say don't worry about being a beginner as it's piss easy to get the hang of. A week of practicing on the dry slope and you're all set :)

Was on my arse more than my feet all saturday morning, then a bit better in the afternoon.

Didn't fall over once yesterday (only went down green and blue pistes though).

Going back in two weeks I think
