stereo|dirt - thursday 13 October - paul lancaster [fragile] Coming up this Thursday, 1900 - 2100 GMT, is the second of my stereo|dirt shows on www.orbitalgrooves.com with a special guest mix from Paul Lancaster of Fragile Recordings - www.clubfragile.com PAUL LANCASTER Born and raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, 28yr old DJ and producer Paul Lancaster was first introduced to the sounds of acid house and techno by local pirate radio station Wear FM in the early 90s. Inspired by the DJ mix tapes of Carl Cox that he heard at school, Paul quickly embraced the local underground rave scene and began honing his own mixing skills with the techno and breakbeat he discovered at Bass Generator Records and the deep house grooves of Trax (Flying Records) in Newcastle. Following a move to Leeds, Paul drew further influence from the diverse mixture of funky vocal house and US garage at club nights such as Up Yer Ronson, Back 2 Basics and Hard Times along with the techno and breakbeat of the Orbit and Warehouse. After a short spell DJing for fashion shows and promoting his own club nights in Leeds, Paul returned to Newcastle with a new found confidence as a DJ and a burning desire to break through as a producer. Over the next few years Paul took his first tentative steps towards production, remixing a number of house classics for his own DJ use and his first full production in the form of debut single 'Bad Girl' that was signed to Climax Recordings in Newcastle. In 2001, Paul began working with Climax as a freelance A&R scout, DJ and producer and during this period he helped sign a number of tracks to the label including his own production 'The Gringo Trail' by Julio G. Soon after, 'Don't Stop Burning' was signed by Cass (Cass & Slide) to his new Sabotage Systems label and featured on the compilation album '8 Live @ Centro360'. Since then, a steady stream of productions and remixes have appeared on labels including Red Ant, Sabotage Systems, CP Recordings, Perc Trax, Ktchenware Records and Subversive Records. In September 2004, Paul’s club mix of R&B / Pop group The Sirens received rave reviews in the national press and charted just outside the UK Top 40 (ouch!) whilst his remix of 'Leathersex' by the Thrill Kill Kult on Red Ant reached no.7 in the US Balance Chart a month later. In 2005 Paul has released 'Many Paths' on the Perc Trax label, remixed 'My Deepest Darkest Secret' by Mohawk for Subversive Records and established his own digital download only record label Fragile Recordings as an outlet for his own music and to showcase some of his favourite DJs and producers. In recent years Paul has also promoted his own Fragile parties in Newcastle, with guests including Tyler Stadius, Cass, Mara, Steve Gerrard and Jonathan Lisle. With an eclectic mix of musical styles which he has dubbed 'Forward Thinking House, Tech-House & Breaks', Paul’s productions have received strong support from some of the world's best DJs including John Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Cass, Danny Howells, James Zabiela, Tyler Stadius, Dave Mothersole, Pete Bones & Hernan Cattaneo, whilst his growing reputation as a DJ has led to gigs throughout the UK and in Rome, Malta, South Korea, Sacramento, Poland, Hungary and Washington DC. Yeah it's a world exclusive...only one copy in the world! Worth a lot of money I should think! My computer has been at the pc doctor for the past week and minidisc was the only way I could record it. Either grab a copy from Steve or I'll do you another one soon... For anyone that wants to tune in to the show, mine and Steve's mix goes out tonight (Thursday) and my half includes the new Mohawk track 'My Deepest Darkest Secret' which is out on Subversive Records on Monday!
Big thanks to Paul for the mix! Went down well. In the next couple of weeks we've got a dirtyblondes special and a mix from deep, down & dirty (aka pete robinson & adams). Looking forward to it!
