the old cat & dog, love/hate relationship thing I want to get a kitten, my staffy has never had a close encounter with a cat, but has chased many....the other dogs loves cats. Has anyone any advice as to how i should introduce the staffy other than the usual 'slowly does it' method?the cat'll live upstairs when we're not in and the dogs will live in the kitchen....just to ensure it doesnt get eaten.
ive got two cats and a staffy, the cats will show the staffy whos boss pretty quickly to be honest. Our staff is a softie though so suppose it depends on the dog
We've had our cat since she was a kitten (she's 2.5 now) and we got a dog last week. It's been a nightmare...we've gotta keep an eye on them both all the time. It's a good job the dog is soft! It is getting better though, they can now be in the same room as each other...the cat juts stares and hisses constantly though. The funny part is that when the dog falls asleep the cat goes over for a good sniff! She is defo in charge. The dog just wants a pal...at her last home the cat and dog slept together, so I think she just wants the same. The best way to do it, is to let the cat be in the room. Bring the dog in, on a lead and let them just look at each other. Do it 2-4 times times a day for 5 mins at a time. You can then take the lead off the dog over time...they will grow to tolerate each other, even if they don't like each other! It will take time though
I've had my dog for nearly a year and it's safe to say he's never gonna get on with my two cats. The cats totally hate him. They don't go for each other all the time anymore and nobodys been hurt but it would be nice for them to tolerate each other
My GF used to have 4 cats, I got my german shepherd then we had 1 indoor cat and 3 outdoor cats, my GF got her self a shar pei we now have no indoor cats and no outdoor cats
