TV critics have likened the ITV show to Dallas, and have hailed the character Tanya Turner - played by Zoe Lucker - as the UK's answer to JR Ewing. The programme has even been compared favourably to the Golden Globe-winning hit Desperate Housewives. The third series of Footballers' Wives started in the US on Sunday night. It has been promoted with an advert showing Tanya in front of a football net full of naked players. TV Guide magazine said of the series: "It makes Dallas look staid", adding: "Tanya is Britain's female answer to JR Ewing." And the San Francisco Chronicle said: "It makes competitors - namely Desperate Housewives - seem dowdy and creaky by comparison."
