    TV Licence

Just moved into my flat and obviously need a TV licence, but how long do you reckon you can get away without one? If the bloke who lived there before me doesn't cancel his for a while, surely I can get away with using his for a bit?

Also, do you get a warning before they fine you or is it just a straight fine?

straight fine i think. i wouldnt risk it. to be honest its bollocks, you should have the right to untune bbc1 and 2 and then not pay the license fee.

If they ever call round unannounced just don't answer the door. By the time they come back you can buy a licence. Sorted

you can blag it forever just about, install a security camera and dont answer your door unless its mates ever. if i was you tho id wait about six months, if the last owner told the TVL that he has left the property will be down as unregistered/empty and they will fire off "we are on to you" letters ever month or so but ignore them these letters are mass produced and they dont even know if anyone is living there, they dont have access to council tax registers etc

I can see the door from my window so when they ring the buzzer I just won't answer, even if they get through the first doors I have a little peephole. Dunno if the bloke will cancel it though tbh cos he hadn't cancelled his Telewest until marc tried to set mine up and TV licnece isn'treally somethign I woudl think of to cancel

If they do come I'll just have to hope it's a bloke, sure I can give him summit to put him off

    Re: TV Licence

Last year at my student house we got away with it for about 2 months then we got a letter saying that if we didnt get a licence we would get a fine.

This year I moved in in the 2nd week of September but didnt bother getting a licence til October 1st (Cos I am tight and didnt wanna pay for the whole of September!!) Loads of people have just had warning letters about it this week.

I'd try and get away with it til November 1st if I were you ;)

It pays for Radio 1,2, etc aswell, plus all the other channels BBC3 + 4, etc. Still shouldn't have to pay it though, the only good thing about it is that there's no adverts on Radio1:lol:
