Vista Ready Boost Demo Looks impressive using spare memory from devices such SD cards as demonstrated here.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5902090796342771727 Looks like a nifty feature!
Re: Vista Ready Boost Demo i don't get it? why sd cards?, why doesn't it just use the hard drive of the pc?
Re: Re: Vista Ready Boost Demo No i dont either really.... You'd think if u had 500gb HD or more then there'd be plenty of memory for it to exploit and boot that quick everytime!? :spangled:
yeah, this ReadyBoost seems pointless - it uses flash memory to start quicker?!?!?! why not just use RAM? roll on next monday - get an official and LEGAL work copy to install!
Why use Flash memory instead of a hard drive? Flash is much faster, one of the biggest bottle necks on pcs (especially laptops) is hard drive read/write times. Why not just use RAM? Because flash memory can have data stored on it before you even you switch your pc on, RAM cannot so everything still has to be loaded from the hard drive, see above.
lol ive got 2 redemtion upgrade forms to send off for erm .... work too lol , not that works ever gonna see them , ive got the choice of vista home and vista home premium !!! mite get one of each !!
There is a good chance that there is a bottle neck elsewhere other than the actual flash (maybe in your chipset, usb controller or even in the electronics of the actual card). Without knowing exactly what the setup is it's hard to know. Consider this. Lets say to boot vista a computer has to load in 100 blocks of data into RAM. Lets say that the hard drive can transfer 10 blocks per sec, therefore the laptop will take 10 secs to boot. Now lets say you add in a flash drive that is only the same speed as the hard drive. You have 50% of the data blocks required to boot stored on the hard drive and 50% on the flash drive. The pc will now boot in 5 secs. Now lets add in a flash drive that is twice as fast (which I don't think we are that far off having). You stick 70 blocks of data on the flash drive and 30 on the hard disk. Your pc will now boot in 3.5 secs. There are some over-heads that will bring the speed down a little but it's still way faster than hard drive alone. PS, I'm not an expert, that could all be bullshit.
