If someone is really good then it's worth the bother.

cool. I thinks its a load of balls personally :p well, the ones i have seen have been pretty bad. Although im not totally writting it off. As i think that it could be done well....

I saw one person doing it with LOADS of equipment. Chaos pad, 2 macs, Oxygen midiman etc etc....all the kit you could ever want. But it was just pointless. a waste of kit, and space really. They should have just put a video on.

But i suppose you could argue the same with DJs...well...some of them...:p

waste of time. Most of the time its just a video set to loop, with the odd effect thrown in.

Did anyone see hextatic do his VJ set last year?

    :)

I think it's good if you've got the correct venue/equipment.

Foundation isnt very good VJ-wise cos the the physical shape of the venue does not lend itself very well for screens/projectors.

I've not seen *awesome* vj'ing but a few times i've been to events @ the bassment they have quit good video loops and stuff.

Good lighting (scans, lasers, strobes, moonlights etc) can have a great influence on the crowd and the atmosphere of a night.

Why pay a VJ? Better to spend the money on lighting i say. Who actually watches the video? People only glance at it, so it doesn't actually mattertoo much, whether it's a VJ or just a video. People notice lighting wherever they're standing/looking.
