    No, it was originally a book by h.g wells (or someone like that) then it got made into like a sound story, which was put onto tape/cd ... then they've made the movie from it.

    The "sound story" was a radio broadcast recorded like it was a real life transmission, this was broadcast across America during the 50's or 60's. People tuning in to the broadcast halfway thru didn't know it was a story and hundreds of people panicked and fled to the hills and prepared for war.
