Why Ex-Galaxy FM DJ's shouldn't judge DJ Competitions

Got drawn in the first round of the AK Leisure competition in consett, against Ian Cox (tribal house), Ste Collins (deep) and Steven Boyle (trance) at the braes on tuesday.

Cox plays a good set but people don't like his music.

Collins plays a good set, had me shitting it because I thought he was much better than me.

I play vocal house, starting slow, buildin it up and have people dancing round the bar, I come off and the manager reckons i've won it hands down, as no-one else managed to engage the crowd and i was the only person to mix out of someone else's set :)

The last lad comes on and plays his tracks all in the wrong order, so that there's no build-up to his final track, and he goes all over the place. His mixing was appalling. Sounds worse than Dave Clarke (the consett version of him anyway :p)

Worst bit is that he was playing old tunes (liquid child, delerium, jds, etc) and he was playing the longest, most boring mixes of them he could find.

Guess who wins out of the above? :p

Mate I wouldn't give it a second thought, competitions like that are just a load of bollocks, its all about how many mates you can get to the bar etc etc.

I remember playing the Sunday Trading comp, Allie was playing also but he played hard house  Yes....Allie...hard house...in the same sentence!

Anyway this other bloke who was playing said I should win...fair enough...but the guy who played last, was a bit of a charver altho to be fair to the bloke he was sound....but ended up pissed off his face, played the most appauling set, mixing was utterly terrible and tunes were toss. Anyway he brought the most mates along with him and he won, a case of beer and an entry into the Semi Final....not bad for a major screw up really!!

So bollocks to such DJ comps i say :p

jesus this girl is shit hot

drink for ruth please, over here :p

the most puzzling bit is that the other three of us have played live venues for the last two or three years on a regular basis, the winner of the round had only played one night at trades

would have won it if I was on next week because kareem is meant to be judging it

ste took it more personally, his exact words being "that was a farce, it was between me and you and he knows it" :p

not really because I didn't lose because I was shite... I put in a good show and everyone else thought it was a farce as well :p

maybe the judge just thought boyle was sexy and wanted to shag him :p

sounds about right - he's got blonde hair if it's the same bloke.

he dropped the tiesto mix of silence - not a bright thing to do when you've only got 45 minutes to show what you can do and that track is just short of 12 minutes long :dunce:

    aye thats the one :)

got nowt against the lad, i know from experience how hard it is to learn to dj, but on the night he didn't do his best and certainly shouldn't have gone through given the quality of the other sets

maybe he should have played this

As the comp was in Consett it seems obvious to me which sound the locals would want to get wasted to.

well, this is where we get to the best bit :D

the guy judging it used to do galaxy roadshows, before he got booted. He now plays somewhere in bishop auckland, and likes nothing more than flip n fill style shitty trance, and despises house in all forms.

Boyle won because he played trance, even if it wasn't the stuff that the judge plays or enjoys on a regular basis.

Conclusion: galaxy dj's (the majority of) are too narrow minded to listen to anything but the new kelly llorena track
