    Wood Burning Stoves.

    We've just had one put in the other day - has anyone got one or can any one shed some light on what is the best fuel for burning?

    softwood burns hotter but faster , hardwood burns slower but not as hot

    i start with soft wood then hard wood logs when house is warmer.

    my last gas bill was £17 over 3 months -

    I'm no expert, but if it's a wood burning stove, would wood not be the best fuel?

    aye i know that you tart, but there's plenty kinds of wood going!

    we've got a free softwood supply on - but there's the case of seasoning the hardwoods and that. so i'm guessing it's a case of buying/finding it green and leaving it out for a year.

    apparently this kind of heating arrangement is the way forward. they bought it on the advice of my auntie who said it's slashed the bills more than 60 odd percent :)

    its a good move , however it still releases carbon , my lass if she where hear would give u the bullshit.

    all i can say is im a wood scavenger

    softwood = conifers = forestry commission land + van = fuel :)

    no , but as long as its not varnished or painted , i once got a skip full of wood dropped off for free , lasted me until last week , got it in january . had all sorts in it .

    if ur in a smoke free zone (which i doubt u are) then ur fucked

    gone are the days of burning shoes , the fence , carpet and other items around the house ( 1960's style)

    all i can say is if you dont have alot of storage space for wood to dry out and for wood for ready to use fuel it will cost just as much as gas , well maybe.

    a dumpy bag of wood (hard/soft) between 40/60 quid , they bags are the size of builders sand bags. how long will it last ? maybe a month .

    i sell u some but i like my heat :)

    haha i'll have a think mate, i think we've got a contact who owns quite a large timber yard through south shields and he said he'll chuck us loads for nowt as long as we arrange to have it moved.

    so obv, buying it will be last resort ;)

    its not the type of wood you use that makes it smokeless you idiots

    its the type of stove!

    smokeless stoves get so hot they fry the smoke particals making it smokeless.

    there are wood buring stoves or multi fuel burning stoves, wood is wood but it must be at least a year old before you burn it or it fucks up the stove with the smoke and tar it gives off.

    dont your fucking parents know ffs they have shelled out a grand for a stove and are clueless at using it????

    Aye, apparently the stepfather does - but he's at graft. it was a simple question you tart.

    they paid in excess of a grand for it, but thats the walls and cieling re-plastered, redecorated, the Chimney being excavated and sorted out (it's a old victorian gaff) and the breast redone in some canny expensive granite.

    so aye, i think they put some thought into it prior to actually spending the lowie. :wink:

    just a stove but plans are being made for a total conversion next year apparently.

    I can't wait until the gaff is mine :evil:

    you've got a water heater havent you pike? any good? i thought they'd be piss poor tbh but apparently according to me dad and other relatives they're just as good as anything

    not ready for the install yet i want a back boiler but i need to get some advice from a heating engineer you have to be sure it can drive the amount of rads your house has etc.
