i prefer vinyl - but only because it's what i started on, it's what i love using, it's DJing in it's purest form for me and vinyl/decks are so part of my whole clubbing life from the early 90's till now.... u can do so much more with CD decks nowadays with the advancements in technology using laptops, effects equipment etc - it's the old adage - since it became so popular, it's pushed what people have to do to be good at it - a DJ mixing 2 tunes nowadays isn't enough as anyone can do it - they've got to do something different to be at the top of their game! For me - it's all about vinyl - and when i can't buy it anymore - so be it.. i'll lock myself away, with my boxes of records, 2 decks and a mixer and have hours of fun! However - i do believe the CDJs are having a detrimental affect on the scene... no-one buys tunes anymore, they just get them for free - and even if they do - £1 a tune ain't a fortune....
Im not so sure - I know im more likely to buy tunes that might turn out to be useless in a mix or not what i really wanted or liked.... if they only cost me 1.50. Back in the day when i bought vinyl, my buying habits changed completely because each tune cost an arm and a leg - I found myself buying more 'sure bets' instead of being experimental because i wanted my 'moneys worth' With the world market opening up to people from all over the world being able to buy and download instantly... maybe labels can make more money in the long run by offering digital downloads at superior quality and at reasonable prices. Sites like beatport are definately a step forward for me - i wouldnt think about downloading and including a 128kbps or 192kbps tune in a mix these days... it sounds naff.
I love both vinyl and cd, when it comes to buying records though i wont venture out too much because its too expensive and i dont want to end of with a box of random records, i'll normally just stick to buying alot of dark prog stuff that i can play together. But now i have cd decks it means i can play music of loads of differant styles, and it won't cost me much.
Are thanks you confused me now!!!!LoL . Vinyls bound to wear over time! as well as cds if there not kept in their cases!
Using much more CD's these days since I got my cdj1000's. The fact that tracks are so much cheaper means you can be far more experimental with what you would usually buy. Plus the majority of promos I get are on CD or sent over the internet. And with my own tracks I can finish it off in cubase, burn it off and the try it out fully with other tracks on the cd dex. Did a mix the other night with old tunes from 4/5 years ago, so was purely on vinyl. Still love vinyl but you need to embrace new technology too these days
are you kidding????? I probably buy 20 tracks a week and that is minimal compared to what some people are buying More and more people are getting their tracks heard and obviously, this has added a lot more rubbish to the equation but it has also allowed a lot of bedroom producers to break through who wouldnt have had the means to otherwise. People moan that labels are going bankrupt etc etc but at the end of the day, if their releases were good enough this wouldnt happen. Although you could argue that shite has been replaced by even more shite
