    Apparently the next version of Windows (Vista), has some energy saving mode built into it so it shuts down after so long inactive. MS reckon if every computer in the world was running it the world's energy consumption would be cut by 10%!!!

    Dunno how much of that is just sales bumpf like.

    its a load of bollocks.

    Even with your PC switched off the Power Supply is still on and running (albeit at a standby voltage).

    Pressing the power button on the front of your machine doesn't switch the machine on... it's already on if it's plugged in. All it does is tell it to boot up. Most monitors run from a standby mode too.

    The only solution with modern PCs is to unplug them at the wall - that way they're not using juice.

    that it is, very distubing... i read a nice book that touched upon global warming, very scary stuff given that it gave a balanced view with long and short term projections.
