i was at nissan for a year and a half

    same old story

    temp contracts
keep you hanging on, month by month another temp lost his job

till there was only 2 temps left

i lost my job, went out to shake the hand of the other temp and he told me he had lost his job as well

then the bitches rang me up around 3 times afterwards trying to get me to go back and work for them

"if you dont accept soon we will take you off the list"

i was working next door at johnsons for the same wage, they put me on 3 shifts so better shift allowance, but less/easier work, and there was soooooo much overtime available, did 25k in one year doing about half the work of the nissan job IMO

i was based in engine dress at nissan, proper mans job :D

its quite ironic that nissan are offering redundancy to some of the older people at the moment, as its easier to get the cheap temps in then keep the old guys, says it all IMO

i got out the manufacturing when i could, cant see it happening longterm, and i heard all these new quashkia cars are all getting retro fitted parts because they are not getting made properly

still got a few mates in there, 2 online and one doing maintenance/engineering.

i thought all the new temps were not even getting a normal full wage??

and lol @ hoping to get made permanent

the other temp that got sacked when i lost my job had been bladdered 2 times previous, and had about 4 years worth of temping for them.

if anybody was going to get a permanent contract it was him, but he never, saw him in town a few years back and asked him if he made it, nope he got balddered another few times, asked back in and told them to fuck off :D

johnsons offered me a perm contract to try and keep me when i told them i was leaving

politely told them no, and then all the old blokes came around and shook my hand claiming i was the first temp to ever turn down a permanent contract

i actually liked the banter at nissan but i suppose its all down to the type of blokes you have in your team.

were these temps the ones on the lower wage?

makes sense if they are getting the cheap chaps in, then sifting through for the better operators and offering them better money ??

nissan is driven by cost to the extreme, making 100 temps up has baffled me :D

No, they offered 6months salary to anyone who's been there over 5 years as redundancy. I think over 100 people took the cash. So they then made existing temps (the ones on hihgher wage) who have been there a while permanent. They then needed 100 odd people to make up the numbers. So they draft in more temps on the lower salary.

They save money on the new temps because of there lower wage and even our wage is lower than the old hands because of all the pay rises they've had. So they're saving loads in the long run.

Just depends on what staff they need. At the min I'd imagine they'd get started soon. However, if they've filled all the places then you may be waiting a while.

Just had my line test tonight.

spent about 1-2hrs on the line with some fella, coincidentally i used to work with his brother :D, but anyway..

The job itself... hmm... its a tough one.

I cant say i enjoyed it, however i wasnt hating it as much as i expected.

I dunno how i can cope there for a couple of months, but the money is a deciding factor for me and even though its shit work ive gotta start there.

Looks like i might be starting after the factory fortnight if all goes according to plan.

Gonna be having nightmares about this stuff !
