Traxsman from Chicago is good Ghetto House and old Chi Town stuff cut up like a Hip-Hop DJ with Beat Juggling and mad skills.

I think i lot of poeple have been brought up with the trance style of long blend mixing and don't really look beyond that when they see a dj taking risk's and mixing in a more Hip-Hop or Rough and ready style they think the dj is shit because he drops a couple of beats

Personally i prefer the cut up style as there is more energy ,risks taken and is more of a performance no matter what the audio format.

Traxman cutting up oldschool Chicago House pretty raw and he miss the beat a few times but mad ideas in the mix.

If everyone wanted seamless mixing between tracks there would be computers doing it and no DJ....

Most djs people go and see are producers first and foremost, tracks are mainly made on computers so its only natural that the dj'ing side of things will be done with a massive influence from computers.

Stu you should have come down the Tyne for Jackmaster a few weeks back, he was playing on Traktor Scratch but still proper chopping it up etc

I guess my point relating to this thread would be if opinions are being formed on djs mainly if they drop less beats than the next dj then something is really wrong irrespective of genre.

If people are going to clubs and being so anal that they're listening out for every dropped beat instead of dancing and enjoying the music that's very sad

obviously train wrecks all over is no good but missing the odd beat here and there ffs, think Conway hit the nail on the head here:

for me personally i'll take the odd dropped beat and the dj taking risks and mixing things up over some dull safe samey set everytime

I think thats why the whole balearic/nu-disco sound is doing so well both with djs and dancers, it's less restrictive you can change styles and even tempos in a set and it's about the time/place/crowd and the music first

house music used to be like that, right back to the old wbmx mixes where they're dropping disco wailing diva tracks alongside stripped down jacking things, it used to be house was just one genre not the 5 million it is today and very few djs mixing between them = dull as fuck

in summary don't worry about tracks being marginally out from time to time, focus more on finding and playing good unique tunes in a new way (if that's on vinyl, ableton, cds, whatever), that'll have much more of an impact than seemless mixing, on people like me anyway

therss nothing better than getting booo';d at when u fuck up , i love it.

just like to say its anoys me when a dj plays the same sound all night , mix it up a bit , dont wonna hear a 2hr seamless track.

here here! bang on with that one mate. that's an aesthetic i employ whenever i play out or record a set. fuck the sub-genres, lets just get on with playing some wicked house. or techno. or whatever your flavour is!

obviously there has to be continuity or it just wouldn't work, but those that don't like to dabble in other sounds are, in my opinion, unimaginative.

one might go as far to say they are dongcopters, as illustrated: :dongcopter:
