British soldiers beating up iraqi trouble makers

i've not seen the videos so im not even gonna pretend i know the situation or the stress and confusion...

BUT soldiers should be trained to hold their nerve in the face of severe provocation, if they all went off and battered people at the first signs of trouble then there would have been anarchy around the world for decades. these images are used as propoganda by elements in iraq and the occupying forces should be aware of what this looks like... iraq is in turmoil and a widescale civil war/uprising could erupt, do we want our troops in the middle of that?

however there are certainly times in conflict where making an example or dishing out a beating is necessary... as i havent seen the footage i hope for the soldiers involved this was one of those times.

i think smogs point is very interesting - Smog - watch the video WITHOUT sound and see what you think. Then watch it back with the commentary of the 'soldier' filming it.

it makes 2 very different versions.

if you knew the history of what happened that day and saw their reactions - maybe it in some ways explains the way they reacted - remember - this was taken 2 years ago - if this was happeneing everyday all over, i'm sure there'd be much more footage.

once again, the army being put on trial - i'm sure a lot worse has and will happen during tough times of conflict.
