i'd say that was more newcastle's fault, rather than the scene...

Nah, don't think it was aimed at me at all.

If Mark doesn't want to risk putting a HH night on, he doesn't have to. I'm assuming the Lashed night will be funded partly (if not soley) by Lashed which would be a safe bet.

I'll still stand by what I say, a HH night up here would work once a month or even once every two months with the right line-up and if it was promoted correctly.

Just a shame the supposed line-ups & the promise of putting a few hard nights on a year have turned out to be a pack of lies. Can't remember when the last hard night was. June? :spangled:

At least the trance fans will be happy by this news, which, at the end of the day, is the core business here, isn't it? :king:

have you heard some of the gash they listen to over in america? i suggest you listen to some chris cox, peak, icey or baby anne...

i would say the uk audience, yes lacking in enthusiasm in many respects because they've been drained by money grabbing promoters and copious amounts of drugs over the years, actually know what is quality better than most.. the rest of the world will just lap up any shit going as long as they can get off their tits to it because its something new to them..

as for promise being a mixed night and not a trance night, every dj you have booked dec - march is trance, hard trance or hard house...

A mix of trance and what else? :spangled:

It's not what all of the punters want, I think you've ignored a lot of punters who have been asking for a long time for another hard night, and one actually worth going to. You may not agree and this is only my opinion, but I think there's a lot of people on the boards and beyond who actually miss Quality nights and would like to see them coming back on a regular-ish basis.

    sugarshack has been dead recently...

tall trees in september was dead...

the last wax on was 'to the rafters' till the end i hear, as was tong and lawler at shindig, fanciulli was pretty busy at 3am on saturday, upstairs was packed all night too...

so id disagree that its newcastles fault, i think its just a cop out sometimes...

yes i was there, yes the turn-out was v.poor.

However i was making 2 separate points. One was about the calibre of DJs that Promise is pulling in which is good. The other point was about the scene is general which is far from dead. Trance DJs top the 100 best poll - even though everyone says the poll is crap it still says something

Are you talking to me or Mr Deakin in your last sentence here?! :)

As much as i dont like Americas taste in dance music, theres no doubting their enthusiasm for it. In Asia you cant deny they seriously know their dance music, and Australians moreso.... thats what matters surely?

it says a lot of people voted overseas for the trance djs?

it aslo says fans of genres other than rtrance have more to do with their time than vote in a poll in a magazine which means fuck all...

also you say it proves that this is an indication 'the scene' is alive.. how? compared to what? i doubt many people who listen to house, breaks, d+b and the rest even by dj magazine...

    Yes, but the quote was:

"I don't see us as trance night more of mix really"

My question was a mix of trance and what precisely?

Different varieties of trance and what else?

    :)

HH died on its arse when it went from being fun music to pure nailz and sounding wank, well acually its always sounded wank just used to be fun to go out to.

Trance isnt dead, just trance as it was known has died on its arse, the big room stuff like gielen etc, when it comes to the more proggy and intelligent side of things its getting stronger and stronger as the club night ahead shows.

    :D

i agree - it's the super club mentality thats dieing, the more so called intelligent, proggier trance seems to becoming more popular - but it doesn't have the wider appeal up here yet... they still want the 'big guns'

the scene has been milked dry of money by everyone involved - including the big DJs charging top whack - it's made it too false in some ways... that my opinion.

yeh i still love both, but prefer the proggier side of things now, newcastle just wants big names tho, and the big names are normally the ones that bang out. seems alot of people in this thread are just basing their opinions on promise tho, when saying trance is dead.

I think the venues charging too much has also put people off attempting new, smaller nights, another factor in the decline IMO.

You 'doubt' that people into other genres even buy the magazine. I can't accept that as a valid argument. Trance won - I've no doubt if a house DJ had won you'd be using the poll in your favour - as I am entitled to do :)

I take on board your point that its a world-wide poll but the original question was not about the local or national scene it was the scene as a whole which i take to be world wide

I still say its booming whenever I go to Gods or Promise has a big night on up here the place is packed

I've been to 2 nights where there has been a low turn-out: Tall Trees - Kershaw trance classics night and Promise G&D.
