totally agree - in my opinion, this is a combienation of high DJ fees and club owners trying to cash in on this 'busy' market and charging promoters top fees for putting on events *

    * speculation and in my opinion

i didn't assume you were listening to just house since you listed other genres also.

i didn't want to turn this into a debate about the DJ poll but you have forced me

Like it or not the top 100 poll has a valid place and that is why most DJs think its important, including the one's at the top, Hardwick discussed it on his board, Jon O'Bir thinks its important to break into it. A&B are delighted with their placing. I saw Armin discussing it also.

It also seems to be a topic for debate on this board alone....

we all know why the scene is a bit stale, it's just as you said in your post. Same thing has been said by loads of people in the past, it's a business at the end of the day and it's all about making money. The crowd ain't that much of a big thing to any promoter, so long as they are spending money.

Promise years back with Breeder playing pulled say about 500 people max....Judge Jules the place is packed with the Rockport posse.

It makes sense to book the mainstream popular DJ's..brings in the bucks.

It's a shame but it's just the way it is.

To break it in a decent club you need to be either amazing e.g. JZ or a fucking pro brown noser.

Tbf that's the way you were coming across mate.

To add my 2 bits I think alot of good points have been made and in general it appears the scene is suffocating at 'grass roots' level but let's not forget it ca be about timing. The G&D night was the middle of the month was it not? Had it been end of the month it would've prob been busier.

I totally agree with Mr Scottyfish on the 'decline' of the scene although I don't think it's dead yet it's just in a state of transition.

Promise ain't gonna move at all, some of the old nights were busy...but not as busy with Nick Warren as it was with John Kelly. Makes sense to continue with the crowd pullers as opposed to unknown talent, who's gonna pay £15 to watch say me or you play ?? not many m8.

It's shit, I have come to terms with the fact. I have played a few decent places but they are few and far between and always down the country.

Smaller nights are where you can make your mark, I get paid for most of the events I play, the ones closer to home e.g Resistance or your event I do for the love of it.

Club land isn't dying, your just getting older and replaced by a dummy sucking cyber stinking of poppers :cyber:

Plain and simple, we all have ambition to make it to club standard but very few ever do. Promise books the odd up and coming now and again..normally quite predictable though. Shindig never, they are booking some well known names even for the back room.

end of rant, I'm off to play a few records in North Bar :D

But maybe if you went everyweek and a cubs full all the time they would add new talent on the night as they are getting the money anyways and its not as much as a risk.
  17. Guest

Youve got a good point there......"Trance is dead" "Top 100 is a popularity contest"

Well if trance dominates a popularity contest its not dead then is it :dunce:
  18. Guest

My point wasnt that you should go all the time, just that why should clubs risk loosing money when they arnt full eveyweek, at the end of the day you cant blame them for putting the same people on in rotation as its tried and tested and works.

Im all for new talent, but it has to be done in moderation and it works both ways, no new guy making a debut is really gonna get a very late set at most clubs unless they are a massive name debutant, so they get given earlier sets, then get missed because clubbers refuse to go to a club that early. for example how many people that go on about Rich's sets are actually there to see them.

Theres only so much promoters can do and then its upto the clubbers themselves to go to club etc...
