yeah i dont have a clue about detox

there are a host of local djs that would never have ever gotten to play on lineups of this ilk without detox

people like to go on that hard dance is gone / done / finished

but at the end of the day it is massively popular

people just become musical snobs as they move to slower beats and get themeselves different haircuts

end of the day tho what do you want

a "promoter" that gets 46 paying people into a venue with no sweat dripping from the ceiling

or a promoter that gets 646 people into a venue with those djs (some of whom aint played in newcastle before) all asking to play again)

    PEACE

We wouldnt let this go IF we were continuing

letting go of djs past their sell by date is something else of course

I liken it to alex ferguson selling ruud van nistelroy

    people thought he was mad

now theyve just gone and won the title

yes but you had just as big a techno and old skool following as you did hard dance.

dont get me wrong like i say i'm not twisting i just dont see how people dont get that i can have an opinion....i used to like hard dance and now i dont.....so an event with 8 of the UK's biggest Hard dance dj's (as some one put it  ) isnt my idea of a fantastic line up......

you put who you like on at your events but to me a mint line up is nothing like that....it's just my opinion people dont lose your temper.

I've always gone to Detox and gave it my full support and helped Melt (if i can) where ever possible....i have got out of bed at 3am in the morning and dragged my ass to town to go flyering when i havent even been out on a few occassions and helped out on the night shifting sound systems and doing other menial tasks.....i dont go for the music and never have but if there is nothing else to offer and in all rooms and your having hard music thrust at you with nothing in way of a chill out area or some well known dj's playing what i want to hear then they'res not a great deal there for me.....the fact that you think the dj's were class doesnt mean i will.....simple as.

Hard dance will cover a lot of the styles they play

the only event i wasnt musically happy with was the arts centre when the main room went far too boshtastic

when weve got 3 rooms it gives the scope to run techno for the record adam lab 4 was playing techno and john flemming was playing trance and psy trance

also savage probably played the least hard set Ive heard for a while

i dont really see how the lineups have changed that much

if you look at the flyers you will see loads of the same names appearing that dont play hard dance

smurf, UEP, JAMES 909, fun size jonny, steve linney, jon mac, james wilson

fair enough proteus & organ donors are totally hard dance but why make any apology for that , when ive been walking round clubs those are the 2 acts everyone has asked me to book , i dont see any one else in newcastle booking them and they are total headline acts

ffs it was the 6th birthday and we wanted to do something on a bigger scale, detox aint about 6-8 alist dj lineups, its more about the characters that go, if people didnt like the lineup it wouldnt have pulled the numbers it did

to get some of these acts to play newcastle is a result in itself, ask some of the other local promoters whom theyve turned down

who said he doesnt have a clue....no one ever said that. I have never criticised Melt for his running of his event and have never said he hasnt got a clue about his own event.....thats just ridiculous.....

i used to go to detox for the rave element, dirty techno pit and rave room being just as busy as the main room......now due to lack in input on the 'other rooms' they have dwindled and get a very poor following....this isnt critisism its mere observation.

I dont brown nose Melt like most, and i tell him my opinions and feedback from other people as help for him if he wants it. end of

and thats why the lineup had on

kai foyen (techno) , chris littlewood (techno). james smith (old skool), fun size jonny (old skool , breask etc) , phil york (trance), michael lindesy (house and techno) , James wilson (prog, tech). man of science (Trance), john 00 fleming (trance)
and earl grey (Old skool) on.

there were more djs on the bill playing what is classed as not hard dance versus those that were

and the flyer said energy, hard dance, trance, techno, old skool, breaks , house

it really is a none argument

if people want the perfect lineup its simple

start your own night , you will quickly realise the limitations of what you are actually able to do

    over and out

 thats true - but the main room always has that flavour in my opinion - but it's also known for it's varied 2nd and 3rd rooms which are often lots of different styles covering most tastes

It does have a decent following for its other rooms just depends whose playing

On a better note the warm up party in Gossip was absolutely spot on never thought id enjoy that sort of music so much

we've lost about 10-20 people max

    maybe 30

some of the old skool followers are busy clubbing every weekend anyway at gabba raves around the country so thats a non starter, it wouldnt make any difference

i would like to see the list of those that stopped going

the people that dont go are the ones that boycott the event when they dont get to play quite frankly i would rather they stayed away

for everyone weve lost weve gained 2

on another level you could say that the pure old skool lineups attract charvas but hey that a whole different argument
