Yeah I agree, it's peoples tastes that change not the quality of the music (apart from the production on trance, very much improved after 2000).

Trance around 2000 may not have had better quality production but the melodies etc were far better imo, it's obvious that with the better equipment being available that the production will get move on but i still prefer listening to ferry sets from 2000 over anything available now.

I think personally out of the 'big 3' Armin deserves the title this year.

As above by GP - Van Dyk went wayward when he switched to Ableton, allowing him to become a lazy cunt and mix electro with tech trance without even having to beatmatch. Nowadays his sets are a mixture of random classics, piss poor house/electro and the odd trance anthem to keep people interested, all by a DJ using a program to beatmatch and generally not looking interested in the club he is playing at.

Tiesto - seems to be going the way of Jokenfold imo, the whole 'im too big for clubs' thing, only DJing at his own 'concerts' which are few and far between. It wont be too long now before his head is so far up his own arse it comes back out through his mouth.

Armin on the other hand has been top drawer whenever ive seen him, and his radio shows are full of brand new quality trance, while always looking to support new artists and labels where possible. His night in ibiza is always wicked and his Armada label and its sub labels are thriving and have been for the past few years.

I would like to see the day when other DJ's break the 'top 3', as it gets a tad boring seeing the same names up there, year in, year out. Out of these listed above though, Armin fully deserves it imo

i think even if he was to bang out a train crash set from start to finish you will still rate it as his best ever

I love trance but no trance DJ should never win this, DJs like Carl Cox and Dave Clarke wipe the floor with them even though I dont like there music as much

He was absolutely class at Crasher, im sure you said the same afterwards on here as well. He used to be really consistant untill about 2002 but now he is so hit or miss.

That was the first time id seen him in about a year and it was easily the best set ive seen him play for a good 4 year and was by far the best trance set ive seen for ages.

Like me you will all probably be at Evolve because deep down you know theres a good chance he'll give you a night to remember! ;)

Fair do's - have a good night wherever you end up! :)

As for the DJ Mag top 100. Hopefully the rate at which minimal is taking over we might start seeing DJ's that deserve to be in the top 10 real soon. Trance is nowhere near as popular as it used to be and the crazier it gets and the older people get the less people will follow it.

Which hopefully wont be too long because nowadays the majority of it sounds like hard house imo. :fart:

A trance DJ has won the polls for the 5th year in a row. How can Trance possibly be deemed not as popular as it was years ago. Every year the DJ poll has more & more votes. If anything it seems to be going from strength to strength?

I think alot of clubbers get misguided at how trance has dipped in the North East. Spread your wings as far as Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London... you'll be supprised at how alive & kicking the scene very much is!
Take the Galleries WEEKLY line-up's for a perfect example, it speaks volumes in comparison to the Newcastle scene & how we couldnt stage summit like they do anymore up here, especially on a weekly basis.

House is a much more popular genre worldwide but generally not with the age groups who vote in these kind of polls.

For a DJ's earning potential this poll is massively important but thats about all its good for.

    So true.

I remember a DJ mag interveiw a few years back with Armin himself & he even said that some clubs in places like China & South America only book certain DJ's who have came the highest in the polls.

Ben Alonzi is the man, I met him and he was like a little lamb, sometimes I dream that I could just stroke his little hair one time before I die.

Minimal will be kicked aside and discarded in no time at all, just like Techno was before it. Fads never last and the majority of DJs seem to be about as fickle as you can get.
