I wouldn't go to a see a band and turn my back on them, why do the same in a club?

This is what's wrong with clubs and dance music in general at the moment. Too many people have this opinion.

It's always been about the DJ, the DJ controls everything.

Surely you mean its not always about the 'name'?

Tom - aye, it's about the music, not specific DJs. You shouldn't have to look at a DJ to have a good night. If you do, you shouldn't be in a nightclub :dunce:

It isn't the same thing though, that's my point. The DJ should be anonymous. As long as they play decent music and make you have a good night, it shouldn't matter who it is. You certainly don't need to be able to stare at them and wave your hands toward them like an idiot all night.

There's nothing uncool about going to see a great band or DJ.

Possibly not but it's a bit sad to say that you don't like a club because you can't see the DJ. imo.

so how does the dj read the crowd and be able to do his job if your not showing him he's playing good tunes?

Youve made quite a profound, yet fitting statement.

NO its NOT supposed to just be about the dj - its supposed to be about the music!!!

true you go to clubs to hear certain dj's play - but does that mean you have to stand goggle eyed and gawk at the dj all night waiting for cues from them to enjoy yourself?

The only time i watch dj's these days is to watch them on the decks from a technical/geeky point of view, and its usually cause im too spannered to dance and im takin a breather.

DJ worship is soooooo 'kevin and perry' ;)

Anyway, my point was Room 1 feels a bit pointless.. I don't even notice the DJ in most places, but there's a reason why they put DJ's up front..

Good job I didn't say that then.

It takes the atmosphere away IMO, you've been to Chibuku at the Masque surely? Then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, no venue demonstrates this more, the entire room looks downwards onto the DJ from 3 sides.

How many times have you been to Fabric?

how can you say this statement, the dj is the music, he has his own style, which is why he was booked, you go to this club because you like the dj's they book therefore your going to the club because of the dj.

Hmm i suppose each room has its own feel if thats the case ... It was quite good to have richards as a blurry point in the distance when we saw him back in April in room 2/3 .... but at the same time the points where ive been in room 1 ive always enjoyed it more probably BECAUSE there wasnt a herd of bovine clubbers all staring in one direction ... felt very different.

To be honest I'd say that going to see specific DJs play at clubs is something which has grown out of musical diversity and the fact that there are so many different sounds/styles about.
It's still the case that you can go to a club regularly and have a great night regardless of who's playing though. Happens at Shindig and Habit all the time, every one is fucking brilliant, regardless of who's playing what.

All of the Shindig part-timers who inevitably turn up when Dave Seaman, Sasha or Zabiela are on, yet call it shit the rest of the time becuase they're into "proper prog and trance" gets on my tits, too.

I used to go to Circus at the Masque, never did Chibuku. To be honest, I know what you mean, that room has a great atmosphere, but whether this is because you have to directly look at the DJ I'm not sure.
