At least it's more vocational than most, leading you into a specific trade. Have you looked into how many people are on such courses compared to how many jobs come up in the industry each year on average? It may be a bit of a shock to the system.

I would say to most people to go to uni if they can, but try to get a part time job while you're there and work during the holidays - it will help keep your debt down. I am always amazed how many students complain that they're skint yet have never worked a day in their lives. Yes, it cuts into your social life, but it will help in the long run.

I havent looked at specific figures but my lecturer says the overall turnover is pretty high i could always come back in three or four years time to work with the building firm im currently at at least i know the company inside out and there starting wage for a surveyor is 20K plus depending on experience - some of them are on 30K a year + company car

Il definitely will be working i could sit around on spare days doing nothing id get far to bored + im going to miss the wage im getting at the moment so any additional money will be a bonus :)

Sounds like you've looked into it more than most, which is a good start! Go for it.

i used to pay £20 a week when i was on less money, i offered to put it up to £30.;)

why would i want to move out and a pu tmyself in financial difficulties? this job im at wont last forever, infact it probs wont last til the end of this year. Once i leave i'll be back on a lower pay. Also, i am going in the RAF at the end of the year, why bother moving out and finding a flat, decorating and furnishing it, and then move out of it to go down south on an RAF barracks?

It makes no sense whatsoever Jambon, think about it!:dunce:

it makes more sense staying at home until its time to leave, im 22 ffs, not 30. I was going to move out with my ex girlfriend but we split up. i really dont see the point in me moving out on my own.

people have done it for years, if you arnt a student moving away most people stay at home until they're in theire 20's.

you don't have a house on your own tho you move in with mates!

moving out was the best thing i ever did, you get on loads more with your family cos you're not always under each others feet

an i'd be embarrassed to bring a girl back to my parents... how shit would that look!

I repossess properties at work and we get D.O.B. info for the borrowers and these days more and more of them are only in their 20s and in serious financial difficulties. It's unreal the number of people I've spoken to who say they wish they'd waited a bit longer to move out. :(

For the record I'm 21 and live at home because I don't particularly want to rent and I can't afford to buy just yet and probably not until I qualify.
