I saw an escort cosworth on richmond high street a few weeks back - Have to say i still really quite like them. Shame they are as rare as hens teeth these days, and as rare as hens bollocks to find one that hasnt been thrashed around. Wouldnt mind trying one out for a laugh
Some bloke who used to work at my place had one, and he swapped it for a 2.0TI Nissan Sunny! It was the fastest car I've ever been in!
lx is generally better specced, at least in the later models, coming with climate pack as standard which is air con/quick clear front screen and electric/heated mirrors which the zetec may or may not have as it was an optional extra. the zetec has stiffer 'sportier' suspension, and the lx/ghia has a softer ride. im guessing ur after a new shape one to which the power between the 1.6 and 1.8 engines is pretty much nowt. if the zetec is well specced id go for that personally, otherwise go for the lx
Am i right in thinking the original zetecs are/were arguably the best of the focus'es (excluding the st's) ?
all the base model focuses are pretty similar... cl the basic model with wheel trims, manual mirrors and just a heater zetec with sporty suspenion + alloys + add ons of climate pack/abs/etc. all 2.0s came with abs and traction control. best all rounder for money/drive/comfort lx same benefits as zetec with climate pack standard ghia same benefets as lx + colour coded handles + door strips, soft suspension and old man wood centre console fascia + a variable wiper + extra map lights + leather seats and stuff mp3/tdci sport had all the lx stuff and different alloys, etc. st170 was the fastish old focus with all the ghia stuff but uprated brakes, suspension, stereo, everything and nice multispoke alloys rs was the daddy of the old focus, 230ish bhp with sparco racing seats, brembo brake calipers and oz wheels. still just fwd tho i should work for ford
Luke you certainly sold a focus to me there I've got 2 months to have a look around & take test drives etc I cant believe the difference in Insurance groups between my 1.6 8v saxo VTR to both the 1.9tdi and the 1.6 16v Golfs You're obviously just paying for the name with a VTR/VTS
& The focus RS is a fucking beaut The above one is nice but my mates has it in Cosworth/RS blue which is also mint
Marce, i've driven one. 115 horse power, you don't need any more and you dont need any less. You can get good second hand deals on them now too, the old shape is a good buy. Smooth.
ill quite happily take u out in it if you like marc. id have to disagee with them not being nice inside, my dad has a new vw polo and thats the most uncomfortable car ive ever been in. least ur new car shouldn't fall apart unless u get a new astra, i've heard some right horror stories. i drove my mams saxo before i got the focus, the handling is so much better with the multi-link rear suspension which is also in the new golf - and it doesn't fall apart like your average french piece of poo
But the saxo VTR is considerably quicker than those cars, you are paying for the power really! A 1.6 16v mk4 golf will severely lag behind....
I mean for the sport models for example....the seats arnt all that chunky and seems a bit sorta plasticy...its still cool though. Wheras on the mk4 golf, say the gti T, you get full recaro seats, leather steering wheel, etc, etc. You are right about the french cars like
We've got a Golf TDI and is definately a good car but over the past few months we've had some problems with the car...
u get full recaros in the st focus which is its direct competitor... and leather steering wheels on every focus over the basic cl model saxo vtr 0-60 is 9.4, thats only a second quicker than a 1.6 golf/focus, and the golf/focus both have higher top speeds and won't rattle their face off when they get there
