    Totally..
U guys are crackers.. it just a night.

    I'm going.. I think..
I don't care if its full of charvers and charvettes.. I'm going cos I think the music might be good and its a decent excuse for a canny session 2.

Fair enough if you don't wanna go.. sometimes you have to endure the worst of situations.

    See you all there

.....tiny little note to add.... cause i cant keep my mouth shut...

old promise is dead, old stonelove is dead, old bulletproof is dead, old everything is dead. you learn to accept that change is a natural part of a regular night, and that as people get sick of the dj "playing the same set evry week" they have to diversify to draw in more of a crowd.

my manager at ikon said to "why dont you get promise regularly?":
"promise is dying, the crowd dont seem bothered anymore about that style of music, just look at gatecrasher thats going the same way..."

and im gald to see the responses of this post; i'm so glad its all about the music these days. hehe.

anyway, everyone should come along, due to the fact that tylor-leigh is a fucking ACE dj.

and when club nights die, others get more specialist, and more are born. dont worry, as soon as promise withers out the better, it means there'll be room for another night to blossom and wilt in the same fasion over the next decade.

i blame funky house for the death of every club scene in the world. if it wasn't for generic SHITE that everyone kind of likes enough to get by on, then clubs wouldn't be scared into playing it. the reason why newcastle's scenes have all but diminished is due to the lack of enthusiasm across the board.

i'm looking now toward hooked, toxic, and habit. and whenever a good prog or psy night comes along, someone tell me.

its specialist genres that made the club scenes in leeds, manchester and london; if you want a harsh noise night, theres one a week, if you want dirty psy tech electro theres one a week, if you want techno with a traditional chinese element there's one... so i think we should all direct our hatred towards funky house, generic rock-n-roll, and pop music and all other individual songs that are made for producers to pay the rent. if there's no well-liked-across-the-whole-demographic genres, then only decent nights will exist. until the impossible happens, then every month someone will start a thread on some forum elsewhere about a night thats died and the crowd thats changed and the atmospshere thats gone commercial. ellitists die hard because its impossible for us to accept that we're always wrong about something. but we do prefer to rant than to actually start a night of our own, even though there's hundred of tiny venue's that are piss easy to start nights in in newcastle city centre alone!

so either: come along and enjoy yourself for the sake of not complaining about everything- or; start your own night in the basement of the tap n spile, or stout fiddler, or envy, or WHq, or the other rooms, or anywhere at all thanks to the Temporary Events Notice legislation, with any genre, sub-genre or cross-genre-sub-bender music you want.

its up to you. stop relying on other people to make the world a better place and FUCKING DO SOMETHING! ......cause i know i wont. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...............

hehehehe... sorry. im a long winded cunt at times like.

    heres the jist:

-does it matter something else will replace promise thats better for a while then go downhill itself.

-why dont we start our own nights if we like complaining about the shit ones that are.

    -im a hypocrite.

i agree with Peter! if it was held anywhere else i would definetly go! The fact that its an absolute shithole and the fact that some poor bloke was stabbed in there a few weeks back kinda twist my arm a bit.

You can't exactly blame all of the ills in dance music today on funky house mate, commercial or otherwise.

Labels like AATW and Positiva have seen that there was an opening for cheesy commercial trance (the flip 'n' fill style stuff with loads of female vocals) and they hammered it to death. The punters get bored with that particular sound, so they throw mainstream "commercial" house at them. To call it funky house is an insult ;)

The difference between house and trance is diversity. There is a huge broad spectrum of different house sounds, from electro to soulful, to deep, to minimal. When commercial house dies a death and something else becomes the next fad there'll still be decent house music out there to listen to across the board. But while there is pop music, and people who want to get rich quick on mass-produced crap, there'll always be a market for commercial dance.

The problem with promise is that it's not moved anywhere musically over the last two or three years, it's been the same DJs week-in week out (with a few exceptions). There's been no push forward, no attempt to find a unique "promise sound", no attempt to make the night stand out.

Couple that with the dwindling trance scene/support up here and anyone can see why it died in newcastle (and it wouldn't surprise me if it catches up with it in sunderland too).

i think it would be awesome at Digital, but the trance scene is dead in Newcastle and there would be nee chance of filling it unless you attracted the charv nation! if i ended up going to ikon id most likely be watching my own back instead of enjoying myself like i used to at Foundation! Ikon is the only place in Newcastle u can stick Promise on and gurantee to get a good turnout!

ive never been a big trance fan, i hate charvers and i never had a good night in ikon since i was 16 but went along to this last year for a change of scenery and thought it was a class night with a class atmosphere. and there was a unnaturally massive shite in one of the bogs...

i think its only dead because no-one can be arsed to put the effort into making it work, defeated too easily. i take from all these posts that should there ever be another trance night in the town NOT at ikon, you'll sit at home miserably thumbing through old promise photos still?
