Lol no you don't get enough protein in meals if your wanting to build up, it depends totally on what your after, if you want energy then yes go for carbs, loading on carbs will also help you gain weight, protein is great for recovery and muscle synthesis, why would every athlete about take it if it was all false info and didn't work?

I know you don't your body can only take so much and the rest is waste, but protein shakes for recovery are important after training, they work great for me personally thats why i use them, and i agree you need carbs as they're just as important.

Aghh right, i thought you were trying to dismiss it all together. Again though it's all about what you want to achieve really, i wanted to put on weight so started using high carb shakes and it worked, but as soon as i stopped drinking then my weight dropped too, with protein i find i can build slowly when used with other supplements and maintain it better :)

eh well he wouldent be massive if his techniques didnt work. :spangled:

i'd rather take my information from someone who's been training for years, knows the score, is ripped/hard as fuck.

and to be honest all the info i've got so far off people at the gym and all sorts has been spot on. including ken off here

Nail on the proverbial head there. I'm sure I've seen this discussion on this board before.

On the whole supplements are complete bullshit, a varied diet will get you everything you need without too much effort - if your body wants more protein your palate will change so you will actively seek out more protein i.e. fancying some chicken etc.

Your mates who are body builders/pro fighters are probably elite sportsmen so training the same as them isn't going to produce the same results for you. If they're using supplements the only effect it's probably having is psychological and making them train harder because they think they're being helped.

Just do whatever works for you and whatever you enjoy, that way you're more likely to stick to your training. Wasting money on supplements is up to the individual but in all the studies I've read on the subject there's very little evidence to support their use.

Its all about getting the balance of carbs and protein right
To build muscle you need a massive amount of protein compared to the normal persons daily intake.
I used to eat over 300 gms protein a day when i was competing.

I do take what works for me lol otherwise i wouldn't buy the stuff, i've always ate well but when i first started training i didn't gain too much, now i found out what supplements work for me and take them, i've increased the ammount of weight i lift, look better, and i'm able to train more, alot of times twice a day, gym in the morning and thai boxing/mma at night.

I don't just buy stuff cos it has a pretty bottle, i buy stuff that works for me personally.

Sounds to me like you're just getting fitter, irrespective of your supplements.

yeah, a normal man's GDA of protein per day is only about 35-40 grams a day.

lol supplements don't turn you into superman over night, they aid in speeding the process up and making sure your body gets the right fuel so to speak.

So they could just as easily be doing nothing then?

I know how supplements effect someone following a training program, I spent over 5 years studying it.
