    they both involve scientific theory.

Big Bang theory is an assumption that because the universe is expanding at present it must have been created by an explosion, there is no evidence to support this theory - its nothing short of wishful thinking on the half of its supporters.

Religion is the assumption that a force external to the universe created existence, there are known forces that govern the universe; the laws of thermodynamics, being a great example and it too is nothing short of wishful thinking on the half of its supporters.

Both twist the evidence available to support their theories... but they are both as speculative as each other.

The truth is we have no fucking idea what brought the universe into existence (as most scientists will confirm), so to rule out a G-d is as stupid as ruling out big bang theory.

We are incapable of producing a probability scale as the area is completely unknown to us...

which scientific theory does religion call on?
they are complete opposites. thoery in science is the study of all the facts, experimentation with all elements that affect the outcome and then intelligent deduction to the most likely outcome.

religion on the other hand is a blind faith, with no facts and no basis except stories that have been told, retold etc like chinese whispers over thousands of years.

now call me closed minded but i always tend to swing towards the most believable theories.

we're not talking about science we're talking about big bang thory.

both religion and big bang theory draw upon scientific understanding to substantiate their theory...

A religious scientist would argue that their is an indisputable force that governs the universe and whether you call this force the laws of nature or a G-d it exists... I like most other religious Jews believe that it is this force which brought us into existence and it is this same force that harmonises existence.

    why is there gravity?

why does the universe operate the way it does, science doesn't know and religion doesn't know... both just provide different theories :D

forces of nature, "every action...." etc. but whatever the actual reason is behind the creation of life and the universe, theres no way you'd find me following like a sheep and worshipping something blindly with no proof. i'm not a gullible person and personally think that intelligent but religious people are only religious because of brain washing from a young age.

    who's brain wahsed me ness?

    I'm intelligent enough.
My father despises religion and thinks I'm a moron.
My mother believes in positive energy and happy hippy thoughts... but hates religion.

Why wouldn't you worship the forces of nature? if anything is worth marvelling at - I'd say its existence ;)

i love how everyone tells joe to stop trying to push his beliefs on everyone when he always says 'you believe what you choose, and i'll do the same'

and then try and push their beliefs onto him by saying religion is bullshit because...

    hypocrite-o-ramas!

i'm not a religious person and this is because i am very scientifically driven - but i can see why other people choose to be, and who am i (or anyone else for that matter) to say they are wrong for doing so?

just think of it as joe's little 'security blanket' ;) :p
