Ive survived for ages not getting my loan - even when ness was not working with his kidneys, i paid no rent then, but had to get everything, food, leccy, tabs, petrol, car things, dog food, everything.

The only reason I got my loan last year was to pay for our honeymoon in Vegas, - cheaper than a normal loan (effectively costing you nowt with the rate of inflation). I got it this year but its really luxury things it has gone one (could have survived without it).

I work 16 hours per week at NR, then again I do get just over £8 an hour, not many jobs you could do that while studying like.

I could manage rent and say gas/leccy on my own now but everything else will have to come from ness.

just wop your student loan in man - it doesnt cost you anything and you wont even notice when you pay it back as you dont see it come out your bank even!

My m8 lives in fenham and se pays roughly the same as what the flats in Heaton are costing... although i haven't looked for other places in Fenham. I couldn't be walking from Heaton to college every morning either..

    Which college is it?

Stop being so lazy....when you're a student you have to do things like walking so you have enough money to smoke loads of pot, drink cider and generally do loads of KKKKEeeerrRRRaaaZZZZyyyy things

    Are you illiterate?

People have already stated that even with a job, I'd barely be able to afford to move out.

I need time to do college work though. Plus on my course there's weeks where we have to stay behind to as late as 11pm :(

unless you are doing something like medicine then you should have no problem working 20 hours a week

you probably spend 10 on this board for starters

People have already said in this thread that working 20 hours (£110 before tax?) a week probably won't be enough to move out and live appropriately. That, and the fact that my college course has weeks where I can be in over 30 hours means I'm probably not going to be in a situation where I can reliably afford rent :(

And shut up phil... u starting like? :samurai:

I dont mean to sound harsh here but you need to get your head out your arse mate

Everyone goes through times when they have fuck all and live from day to day on £2...thats what happens

Moving out will be the best thing you will have ever done. You'll learn a lot about yourself and will grow up massively. Even if it isnt that good, you can always move back home.....

Get that £55 a week figure out your head because if you cant afford it then you just look at somewhere cheaper. Like I said, our house was £172 a month each which is about £40 a week. We had a pay as you go electricity meter and used to put on about £3-5 each a week at the most. Water is about £30 each every 4 months. I'd say Gas is the only real grim one. You can get Telewest with broadband/cable tv for £30 a month which between 4 is fuck all.

Find yourself a half decent house with a few random people in Fenham and you'll have the time of your life for a year....you'll go to loads of parties that last for 2 days, get smashed off your face every night of the week and shag loads of birds : all to a soundtrack of scruffy techno and junkie drum and bass.

Well that's what i was originally thinking but other people in this thread have said otherwise.. I basically eat eggs, potato and tuna for a living anyway  My m8's seen a 3 bedroom HOUSE today in heaton for £48p/w each.

My one piece of advice is to get a pay as you go gas/electricity metre...getting a £700 gas bill is one of the worst feelings ever. With the PAYG metre you get a key and you top it up down the shop

Heatons a good place to live

    Go for it

How common are these? I'm assuming they aren't cheaply fitted as a move-in option :dunce: I abolutely hate any kind of bill to be fair. I'd be quite happy cuddling up to people like we were a bunch of gays if it means not gettinga huge bill just when you've spent your money.
