Not high art, but stuff like Harry Potter and Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals have been somewhat successful overseas. Plus a good deal of music, television programmes and the like. I'm not sure how much they actually contribute to the economy though.

why do you think they don't need funding like sciences:? the technology and equipment needed are just as expensive. It's not an oppositional thing we need science as much as arts it should not be a contest.

arts courses support fine arts as well as advertising, film, music, TV, fashion, publishing, crafts and design. they represent exports of £13billion and 1.9 million jobs and 8.2 % of GDP
    yes I have googled that:D

I run a conveyor car wash as a manager after buying into the franchise , and own the valeting business "a1plus valeting" that operates from the site. Also sell cheap "tat" from the cash and carry onsite, usual stuff, tyre slick, microfiber cloths etc etc, tend to only buy stuff i can double my money on, magic trees sell quite well etc etc

employ a few lads, not the most glamorous of jobs, but if you can handle the shite that customers give you day in and day out, its pretty easy work.

can get stressful as fuck when you are fully booked and the little bastards ring in sick
PITA paying your VAT and Tax bill when they arrive tho

and FWIW i dont think i could EVER go back into normal employment where i had somebody "above me"

    i`m a power junkie

allready turned down an offer of a second car wash franchise from the same people as i was under staffed at the time, will probably take another site on in 2/3 years time, which will pretty much double my earnings overnight (and the stress LOL)

hey all I was trying to say was that greed is not a good thing even though it might oil the capitalist grindstone :D
I'm sure you are a very nice chap who gives to charity and is kind to small animals :)

I just got really angry after reading this story about a bloke who had brought a major company nearly to its knees and he was getting a pay off that was more than me and you will earn in our lives probably.

fuck him!! i put the hours in (was doing 72 hours a week in the first year and had 4 days off for the full year) i paid the cash upfront (approx 10k to setup properly)
i reap the rewards when the fruits arrive :D

some of the staff i have had in so far are not even worth min wage IMO

what i want is 4 full time staff, so any extra cash when it arrives is going to be banked for a rainy day, i put my prices up 2 weeks back by approx £5 per valet and nobody has even batted an eyelid

self employment is the king :dunce:

not in 3 or so years time when the new environmental carwash laws come in and they need to spend shitloads of water recycling tanks

from the sketchy info i have been given, even washing your own car in your street will be illegal

i am right across the road from asda and do a roaring trade in minivalets for £20 upwards, while people do the weekly shopping ;)

we also wash 40k cars a year through the wash itself
