1 - leave part of the wall at the back of the dance floor in as a divider, but make a large entrance / hole in the middle of it so people can fill up the dancefloor from the back rather than having to push down the sides to half way down the dancefloor, then squeeze through the crush before heading to the inevitable space at the back if it's busy.

2 - shift the downstairs bar next to the dancefloor, possible sticking some seating in that corner to make use of the under the stairs space without causing the blockage that the queue for the bar does. Just add extra bar staff into the main bar, which would now be more accessible because of the extra entry point from the dancefloor & wider corridor from the next point

3 - get rid of the vip glass box, using half the space to slightly enlarge the dancefloor, the other half to enlarge that daft corridor bit - maybe also get rid of them daft standing table booths both sides of the corridor and have one set of seated table booths down there instead.

4 - Toilets upstairs if possible, though If you've moved that downstairs bar & added the entry to the back of the dancefloor it should mean having the toilets only downstairs wouldn't be too much of an ordeal as you'd not have such a bad bottle neck to push through all the time.

5 - drop the dj booth down if possible, as it does make dancing at the front a bit odd.

6 - put the pumps back in to the other rooms bar so that it's at least possible to get a decent pint in there, i want my amstel back please.

    7 - better smoking area

8 - get rid of that shitty sound system and give it to me instead please... thanks;)

9 - more podiums for when I get the urge to show off my latest funky chicken routines to the masses from up a height pls... hmm actually probably best not eh

yep - I seriously think if they were to only do one thing to change the club this would be it, it'd sort most of the other problems out simply by reducing the flow of people trying to fit through the gaps round the edges - particularly the stupidly congested bit round the dancefloor bar, booth tunnel, toilet area, + reduce the queues around the dancefloor bar as it'd be easier to get from the dancefloor to the main bar - so it'd actually make better use of the existing bar space as the main bar's hardly used towards the end of the night at the moment... so it'd make it less of a bitch to get to the toilets from upstairs.

I think you do need some kind of divider between the dancefloor and main bar area otherwise you'd ust have one huge caenous space which would look really empty too easily, but this way you get the best of both worlds - a bit of a divide, plus easy access between the main bar and dancefloor and unblock the side access bits of the club.

not that I've spent time thinking about this or owt while getting jostled to fuck, and cursing the person who designed it for their poor understanding of crowd flow dynamix... oh no, not me:wink:

is it a good idea though? as it will make a 3rd thoroughfare onto dancefloor for more people to get pushed around ?..
and the "bars" keep the dancefloor a bit more compact on the not so busy nights..

I would suggest losing the glass booth opening that whole side up and then just losing a slight bit of width of the back bit..

In relation to the thread topic; the main thing I'd change about Digital is everyone who goes/talks about going just stop twisting on about it and harping on about the good old days of Foundation, viewed through rose tinted glasses. Just fucking enjoy it.

just a little remider that the last 6 months at foundation were a mare. numbers dropped (people just stopped coming)and we were inundated with emails telling us people hated the place because it was a shit hole / too hot / shite sound system / hated drinking out of plastic glasses. / was too crowded on the big nights.
we offered to pay to do the place up but the owners didnt want to know...so we left.

im willing to bet that half the people who go on about how great foundation was hardly ever went.

yes i loved the place aswell but i loved it more as the riverside.
i happen to like digital but there are a few major changes i would like done. im sure the guys will make some of them but it cant happen over night.
expect things to start over the summer though. until then hold tight

nail on head, i was there till the bitter end and was massivly put on a downer by the lack of numbers at the end of foundations reign. there was loads of problems, but the best thing about foondation was that it felt more "underground" than digital, because of the massive amount of punter fucks that get into digital.

and yeh foundation was hot like, but it didnt really bother me when i was off my face on, in that day, decent cowie.

i've been digging up all my foundation flyers recently - memories

gonna scan em all someday and hoy em on :)

Personally I'd rather live with the memories. It was a mint era of my life with two of the best club nights I've ever been to in Promise and Shindig - weekly!!! Even the Wax: On I went to there was outstanding. Towards then end though, especially around the 2-3am mark, the club always seemed to begin to dramatically empty and that part of the night used to always be the best for me at it's peak.

All these people who say (even if it is hypothetically) replace Digital with Foundation would probably be winging about the crowd, doormen, toilets or something else trivial in 1-2 years time if it actually happened.
