Totally agree. what was it they said on one of the adverts for the 3gs a while ago.... now you can copy and paste.... err hasn't the rest of the world been able to do that for err... forever Mr. Jobs. Wouldn't have an iPhone if it wasn't for the reason I'm getting one forced upon me from work in a few weeks time.

I held on for months and months with a 10 quid phone when my original 3G contract finished, so i could upgrade to this new thing.

I caved in 2 weeks ago and got an HTC Desire which is the absolute nuts. Apple are jedi masters at marketing lifestyle products to the point where people are whipped up into an absolute frenzy wanting to aquire them ............ but after a while, the whole 'closed' nature of the phone operating system begins to grate on you. Also, stuff like tethering, the speed etc etc. I'm happy with what i got.

Having said that, the new screen looks the nuts, and the case construction and thinness, and battery life .... look great.

Too pricey and too underwhelming for me tho.

Some people just choose to be awkward and go against any trends, regardless of how good they are.

processor speed, memory, interface, gorgeous hd screen, and the fact I don't have to line Apple's pockets everytime I want a new app from their appstore... oh and did I mention the lack of Flash & Shockwave since adobe have pulled the plug on their apple development (pretty much the key thing behind almost every decent website these days). nuff said really.

Safari is a great browser don't get me wrong but hey you don't use your iphone for browsing the web do you? No multi-tasking, shit battery life, more expensive than a top of the range blackberry or android handheld, you pay for Sat Nav (and google maps is wank), you have to use iTunes which is just a giant piece of bloatware which takes up space and memory on your pc, there's a propietary connector on the bottom whereas most other mobiles these days have a standard mini-usb allowing you to treat them like a simple removable device or memory stick.....

    Shall I continue.....

Yes, lets.... limited bluetooth support for in-car telephone systems, slow take up on processors, i.e. it uses the same Cortex A8 processor from the 3GS which apple have 'borrowed' from Samsung after Apple purchased the Intrinsity Processor company rather than the latest A9, a blatant sacrifice of speed vs. battery life after so many bad reports of shite up-time....

Hey but hold on, it looks really nice and it's the latest and greatest model and.... better apply some more v05 styling gel and look cool and ooh I might be able to copy and paste now and oooh, spunk city it's now got a camera like most other phones have had for 3 years and most of all it's got a gorgeous shiny apple logo on it so I must buy one!

I read somewhere where it said " A triumph of marketing over functionality " again nuff said.

Apple pulled the plug on Adobe rather than other way round... not that agree with lack of flash support.

The other stuff like screen, multi tasking, processor, battery life etc are all sorted in iPhone 4 and will put any HTC to shame.

Re applications - lots of app developers have become very rich of Apple so not all 'lines apples pockets'. The apps help set the iPhone apart - I have seen them for HTC and just don't compare.

I suspect you are just a bit of an apple hater :)

Not at all, I'm just a properly qualified I.T person who knows what he's talking about and does the research before buying a product. Do your own research ,next thing you'll be telling me you're going to buy an iPad.

I've had a MacBook via work and it's a great (looking) machine. I also had an Apple Mac Classic, LCII, LCIII when you were probably still in nappies, but again all Mac machines now share the same Intel processors as PC's since the PowerPC chips are no more. These used to kill the Intel chips in every area but were expensive to produce and Intel have such a market share of everything.... So why these days would you buy a Mac computer? for the nice Snow Leopard O/S? (based on Linux) - I can install that on my PC if I so want with a few tweaks here and there (and have done so).... (yes I admit iMovie, iPhoto are good pieces of 'free' software)

I'm not an apple hater as you put it, I just think the iPhone is an Apple marketing executives dream and more fool you and all the numpties if you decide to queue outside the apple store to get your hands on the latest and greatest shiny model compared to all those other mobile phones that get it right first time? why should apple have to release 3 or 4 different models just to keep adding the extra bits of technology to tease people into upgrading? err lets see, clever marketing?. I could argue this point all day long but you'd still buy one. They're shite, overhyped, overpriced. My opinion, Nuff said.

Ps. How many websites do you view with 'flash powered' videos via your iPhone?

I think the majority of people agree with you, but the problem is the end product with the iphone works, I've had my 3g for a year and a bit now and I can't really fault it as a phone.

But I'm not one of these people who wants their phone to take SLR quality picutres/videos and have enough battery life when playing video for 20hrs.

I use it for web browsing/phone/txt which it does very nicely, I won't be upgrading to the 4g for a long time due to it being so behind the other phones on the market, however I don't think any of the phones which give you all this tech work well yet. lets see what the next gen sony/samsung/lg come up with.

This. Ive used and owned android phones and the apps and games really arent in the same league as Apple's. Where else can you find Fifa, Street Fighter IV, Skate, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and a whole MegaDrive running perfectly on a phone?

    Andy,

I don't actually own any other Apple products as it happens and don't have an iPad - don't see the need at the moment although not ruling it out in the future if it gets improved. I do research products, thanks.

To say that Apple could of included all of the present iPhone functionality in their first generation phone in 2007 is just a naive comment to make.

HTC and the resto are knocking out hundreds of handsets trying to improve on their last so again not a valid point about them getting it right first time - look at the touch screen technology - every phone has that now following Apple, although a lot are still inferior. Some new functionality you will get via firmware update anyway without having to have the new phone.

From experience, a lot of 'techie' guys like you are very pro PC and hate Apple without good reason which I was kinda basing my comment on.

I've had an iPphone from the first day they came out here and the reason I like it so much is that it is simply a very, very good product. The new one looks even better - suprisingly I'm able to make my own judgement about it rather than being brainwashed by Apple. To label it as 'shite' is just laughable.

They really did shake up the market for the better with the iphone. Nobody can deny that one.

.... i think its just being able to do a bit more than apple have 'decided' to allow you to do, is what makes people prefer these other phones. The built in sat nav (which is awesome), being able to tether my laptop in a few seconds, access the sd card etc etc etc - these are all things that separate the people who need those kind of things, from the people who just want a very well thought out phone.

They are all good in their own ways. But you cant really say one is better than the other.
