    Re: Is clubbing changing?

Nathan Coles told us the other week if it wasnt for tourists and out of london clubbers fabric woldnt exist (in its current form)...

He said the real clubbers from london who used to go there havent been going for years.. they are all into other stuff..

    So yes thats even changed....

He said the sound they play rarely works at other gigs they play at.. and they get away with it at Fabric because of the toursists...

Fabric and turnmills have loads of 'foreigners' in them yeah .... but thats cause its London.

Regardless... i'd still say no matter what they get away with (as you say), clubs like those still keep raising the bar for what the rest of the country can only aspire to doing...... Ive still yet to see anything quite like when i went for the first time last year and saw live bands, singers and dj's all in the same room and everyone absolutely loving it.....

... if anything, isnt it how any promoter would like to have their punters?

    (london snobbery mode off) :)

I know of loads of 'locals' who still go to Fabric all the time

Plus its been around for a few years now so people are naturally going to lose their initial excitement about it....just like anything really isnt it

oh yeah I fully agree, Id love shindig to be buzzing as much as Fabric week in week out..

I only posted as youve just asked the question "is everything changing?".. and mentioned Fabric were still doing the same as always..

but even their resident DJ says the crowds totally changed there also..

    was my point only..

in response from a personal view to the original question yes things change.. but thats called getting older!! (trust me! )

    Thats an interesting one .....

Do people still actually do these things week on week like they used to (or seemed to) ?

Even tho loads of people complained when Promise went bi monthly, to monthly .... it seems like people on this board at least are picking and choosing their clubbing and doing it maybe only once or twice a month now.

Perhaps the prohibitive prices of a full night out are changing these kind of things.

A load of people I know down there make a point of totally avoiding fabric because of the crowd and the letcherous european tourists.

theres a decent hardcore who come week in week out .. but in the main most people pick a couple a month to come to.. but are still regular..

probs why most clubs have went monthly or such like (one offs etc)..

theres not as many real young clubbers coming through anymore in huge numbers like in the past (they are all into indie) and the older ones have more financial commitments and even (dare I say it) family too... (plus when you hit 30 you become unable to do 2 weekends raviing on the trot..LOL)

for the Promise weekly thing, i think it's 2 parts 1) the Promise faithful KNEW they would get a good night whenever they went and a small crowd still would - there's no option anymore 2) the general downturn in popularity of that type of music from the trendies mean the crowd would be smaller.

none of that makes sense. i can't be arsed to edit.

I definitely don't do it anywhere near as much as I used to (probably down to about once every four to six months now) - there's so much to do other than clubbing! Mind you, I first went in 1988, started going weekly in about 1995, and only stopped going regularly in around 2003. Eventually it gets boring doing the same thing every weekend.
