i dont agree with the whole 'educate parents' will solve this, its common knowledge or at least common sense that a meal that is already made for u or something that is fried in fatty oils will be bad for you, and do these people walk around with their eyes shut at the supermarkets, they are filled with fresh fruit and vege, which if u put ur mind to it would cost that much to buy compaired to you £2/3 ready made meal

some people need rockets up their arses it pure laziness, nothing to do with education, pure laziness

totally, you can buy so much fruit and veg for the price of a ready meal, it could feed you for a few days, maybe even a week.

I slightly disagree with you there. To actually buy a lot of healthy ingredients for a meal, or even be healthy at all in this country, can be quite expensive. Whether that be eating the right foods or even a gym membership. And yeah, I know that you can also exercise for free, and I have taken that into account. But, on the whole, being healthy can come at a cost.

Take Norway for example. They have it the other way round. Unhealthy food and drink costs more to buy. Therefore it can act as a slight deterrent. Healthy foods are slightly cheaper, so people are more inclined to buy them. It should be more like that over here.

at the end of the day that child is 8 years old, his mother should of relised a long time before now that her child is becoming overweight and should of done everything she could to give her son the nutrition and the well balanced diet he needs. she has only herself to blame for not trying to do something about this before now, yet i dont get from watching the news that she is ashamed of herself, especially when shes hanging out of her front door with a fag in her hand, shes a disgrace .

No way! Fruit and veg can be dirt cheap. People should go to places like Grainger market. I used to be able to buy enough veg to go into a massive veg chilli that would last me all week, plus a couple of bits of fruit a day, for around £5 (that was a few years ago though).

i disagree with the fact that if england were to make their fast foods and convenient foods more expensive and lower the price of healthy foods that we would have this problem, in my opinion people like this family will buy ready made crap because it is convenient, for the fact that she probly has about 12 kids and doesnt have the time to make a meal for 12 kids, thats purely stereotyping though but its wha i think. people like this woman are lazy and only care about one thing, money. i bet she is claiming for alsorts, money that should be spent buying decent food, not 'bugers and sausages and ice cream' coz thats all he will eat!

I knew what a banana was when I was a youngun, I knew loads of fruits-orange, apple, lemon, lime, strawberry, grape (white and red), blackberry, blackcurrent...the list was endless! Not to mention all the vegetables aswell. But if you offered me either one of them or a bag of sweets, choc bar, or any other junk food Id have chosen the junk. Kids dont have responsibilty and its up to the parents to decide what the best balanced diet is for theyre kids. Its the parents that are the ones who need educating!
