 Definitely, I'm really bad for preaching to people about it all, but it's true, not to the sense of that horrible woman from "You are what you eat" says, but it is

I don't agree with that one bit. My flatmate and I pay £7.00 per week for an organic fruit and veg bag and we get more than enough to cook interesting, varied, seasonal food every day of the week. It also doesn't cost anything to walk/cycle rather than drive.

It's not expensive to be healthy, it just requires more effort. Lots of people can't be bothered to cook for themselves but they should look after their kids imo.

cooking food, from scratch, with proper ingredients save money AND is much healthier - thats pretty much unarguable

since i waxed my inhertiance i've stopped living on takeways and now losing weight

people need to shop better - 1 stop shops like asda and the like aren't the best place to get everything from - high street is where it's at - fruit and veg shops, butchers

wallsend high street/forum is good for this kind of thing - if u avoid the charvers grebbing on the floor

Yup, I agree with snack, it's cheap as chips.

The issue should also not solely be blamed on lazyness for the case of readymeals.

You can get healthy options, but the problem with the food manufacturers is that they pack them with salt and hydrogenated fat as preservatives - and it's only recently that they are being forced to make it very clear that their products are packed full of shit.

I used to live on ready meals....now I never, ever touch them.

Veg, lean meat and pasta all the way :king:

Another interesting thing i've noticed about this thread is I would be suprised if many (or any!) of those who have said "id starve my kid" or "get them to sit down and eat broccoli" type stuff are actually parents? if it was that easy, do you really think we would have this problem? Of course not.

You can lead a horse to water....

lots of people are "cash rich, time poor" though now because of long working hours. Picking up a veg bag works for me because I wouldnt have much time/opportunity to get to local shops every week.

I find cooking relaxing and enjoy it, if some people don't then I'd imagine it's more tricky to get motivated to do it.

I think i would take the same approach as my parents - i always had to "like it or lump it". I didn't eat chocolate/fizzy pop because we didn't have them in the house and i ate good foods because we sat down at the table and ate together, and if you didn't eat it you didn't get anything else! Consequently i ate just about everything from a v young age. Bizarrely my favourite food at the age of 7 was rabbit pie :spangled:

i totally agree with this, if the choice is there for kids they will be picky and fussy, yet if a meal is provided that everyone else is eating they shud either eat it or go hungry, they'll change there tune eventually, i work with children if only we could imply thses rules children wouldnt be so bloody fussy! however i do think that the food needs to be exciting and appealing for them
