The ultimate aim in IT (if your the kind that burns out easily) is to get enough experience to be good enough to stick a big two fingers up to the whole way it works and go contracting.

Voila, no need to care any more about how good/bad anything is, the managers, the company .... none of it matters any more other than your daily rate and the fact you HAVE to work within your contracted working times or they have to pay you overtime ;)

.... i used to run myself into the ground 'caring' too much about my job. *shudder*

tech support is an entry job for many IT jobs - it's were lots of people start when they want a 'IT' job.

it's always good crack, other support lads, fobbing off calls, surfing pron, networked games, drunk/stoned at work - awesome days

u gotta start where u can!

oh well got an offer for the job I was after which is at Newcastle Building Society, so accepted that and start in 2 weeks!

Si - Long term...probably systems or network administration..that neck of the woods anyway, I want do do more certifications, maybe try and specialize in security. I suppose it just depends on where the work is and how my career shapes out

that's where i'm at. started back in 2000 when they were actively recruiting Java developers. They've cut back since being pulled back into big 'BT', most staff were contractors or work was outsourced to India. Its starting to come back round now though with the contractors made permie

There's a few other contracts floating round up north, i have a few mates who've taken the plunge into contracting. i always keep an eye on the market but haven't plucked up the courage to jump yet.
