Glad you can look at it so lighthearted. Go tell that joke to someone who is actually dying from passive smoking

So, is this a total ban on smoking in public places then ???

Will people only be allowed to smoke in their own home/garden ???

they gonna start with alcohol next. They will start with all the people who get attacked/ bothered by drunks and say it's their right to have a drink free environment.
It's already illegal to walk about with a can in your hand.

I find it a bit odd how they pass a 24 hour license thing and then turn around and slap a ban on smoking.

I bet the cigarette companies are very worried about this being passed. Im in two frames of mind about it. The first being I wish it never got passed because I love smoking in a club and the second being its a good thing because if I try to quit again (which I am after my birthday) then it will be far less tempting to smoke because I wont be seeing people walking around with one in their hand which makes me want one.

It's all based around passive smoking and particularly the risk to working in that environment, not the individuals choice to smoke hence your point about the alcohol law is irrelevant.

the main point of a pub/bar/club is to serve alcohol

if people want a drink free environment...stay in the house, go to posh places or whatever. You cant possibly think that its the same principle.

Some people argue that if you want a smoke free environment...stay in. But thats a stupid argument aswell because why should people have to stay in because others choose to smoke and poison them. If people want to smoke then fine, but do it away from those who dont want their second hand smoke.

Smoking accompanies drinking. It doesnt replace it.

Enforcement may be an issue - but its worked in several other countries, scotland and ireland included and thats been hugely sucessful.

So if a few people choose to break the law - fine, they might get away with it, they might not. Those who do get caught will often be made an example of to deter others by getting heavy fines.

One thing though...imagine the riots there will be on the bigg market
