the only sensible post in this thread.

End of the day the government wants everyone to stop smoking, but where the fuck are they going to find the funding to cover the massive shortfall in taxes if a large percentage of the country does?? yeah yeah they will get it back in the amount they pay for healthcare for smokers in the uk. Thats utter bollox, even if that was the case that money wouldnt be seen for atleast 10 years so what the fuck do they think they are going to do in the mean time? As people have already pointed out in this thread tho the difference between taxes on smoking and the payout to the nhs for smoking related illnesses is ridiculously different so where do all the none smokers think this government or any other is going to get that shortfall from? your own pockets you dickheads.

To be fair....people will still smoke...the majority of smokers wont quit over it. The government doesnt want to stop smoking, it wants to stop it in enclosed public spaces, which is very different. You make it out as though theres gone be a blanket ban on all smoking and 100% of smokers will quit......not gona happen.

So...id say there will still be plenty money coming from them, a minority will quit.

Plus there will be the long term benefits of less people needing care when they are dying from second hand smoke so the money that would be spent on that can be used elsewhere also.

Other countries have managed just fine. We will aswell!

There is no real argument against this ban IMO.

Thats just IMO Jess/Katie before you nail me to the wall again

I think loads and loads of people only really smoke when they are going out on the drink or at work...with it being banned pretty much in both of these places (unless you want a 50 mile hike to get away from none smokers) I think the numbers of ciggie buyers will dramatically drop!

stopping people smoking doesn't save the health service anything.... they just get old instead of dying young and have to be looked after and then go and die of something else instead. we all got to die, it's just a question of when

    make money/profit!

i could imagine this to be rather hard to keep control of, especially in bars/clubs. Doorstaff looking for smokers and ejecting them!

aswell as dealing with underage drinkers, troublemakers, fights etc etc.

"reet lads, we've got 3 suspected smokers on the dancefloor, get them out"

that every 20/30 mins! when you will most certainly have punters bringing in their own ciggarettes with them

or when Doorstaff arent on and you call for police assistance as a few smokers refuse to leave the premisces. seems a waste of police time! I absolutley dispise smoking but i think its a rubbish idea and should of stuck to the partial ban.
